Build cards are now available for many Olivers. They were stored away and only recently found. Here's the scoop from Mary Ann Townsend at the Floyd County Historical Society...

"I require the serial number and the model of the tactor. There is a $10 charge for the service. It starts with the Super Series. You can order using Visa or MC by calling the museum Monday -
Friday 8:00 to 4:00 @ (641) 228-1099. If you send a check the address is:

Floyd County Museum, 500 Gilbert St,
Charles City IA 50616

Thank you for your interest."

Thanks for mentioning this, Ron.

I think we run into the purist collectors vs those who want a nice useable tractor here. :)

I personally see no point to wanting, needing, or having a build card, it won't help the tractor work better, and is a total waste of money....

Those who have grampa's tractor (or are trying to find it & have a serial #) and want to restore it to the exact mint factory condition and never use the tractor will find this info priceless.

So, thanks for sharing.

The build card is a fine source of info to find out the particulars of "Grandpa's" old tractor. Some people are detail oriented, read the manuals and are particular etc. Other people can’t/won’t handle details. Lots of people can barely read and don’t like anything in print. Also helps trace and trap unscrupulous venders/collectors who build a rare tractor from a common model. What's $10.00? A day of two worth of smokes or a 2-3 beers at the bar. Nobody getting rich on the data, even if someone did, why be jealous? I just got the serial number info from one of my 840 two cylinder yesterday. Turns out it was an engineering test tractor then rebuilt back into a production tractor? That $15.00 search increased the value of the tractor with an excellent return on investment.

I have gotten information from the Floyd County Museum. They sent the pictures I asked for and I was happy to send them a donation. So how much effort will $10 buy these days?

No offense but someone is always trying to fleece us. Ten dollars to gather a bit of information from a card? I believe Case makes their build card information available as a free service.

The FCHS ended up with some of the assets of the Oliver Corporation many years ago. The FCHS is a non-profit "historical society" run by volunteers who, among many other things having to do with Floyd County, are helping Oliver owners enjoy their tractors. For example, they offer the only source of original factory manuals. Like everything else in life, they cost money and reasonable people understand that.

I should've realized that, sorry for the rude comment. Societies such as those are in dire straits for money I know. If I ever own an Oliver I will check it out. See ya.

Would you explain a bit more about this. I'm not familiar with build cards. Loren

Sure. In the old days when you bought a new car/truck you found a "build sheet" with all the option codes, axle ratios, etc. under the front seat. Today them put them in the glove box.

Oliver did exactly the same thing except these are computer cards and include other information like the name of the dealer to whom the tractor was to be delivered. So in that sense they are more like the modern car/truck "window stickers".
