Good choice. I have a '97 and like it so well, I plan to keep it forever. No better Diesel engine out there. 127 K on it. It does like to eat brakes, and last March I had to rebuild the butt end (a Dana 70) to the tune of about $3K. Either it was set up wrong at the factory or at some time, when the lube was changed they didn't put in the special limited slip additive. The limited slip clutches disintegrated, overheated, ruined the oil, and took everything else. Took 80K miles to go, tho. Beats the PowerJokes and DuraJaps for durability as it is a real capital equipment diesel engine designed for 65,000 lb GCW trucks and for bulldozers and farm tractors and not just a light duty throw-away consumer product. BTW, the Allison that GM uses in the pickup is watered down and not the real Allison you find in fire trucks, etc. The only real good thing about it is that it has a cool spin-on oil filter and that does give it some class.

I bought my '95 in '98 with 75K on it (for $17K).

I've got over 150K now and no problems.

I've never been happier with a truck...

Steve

$10K, wow, you stole it! I turned down $20K for my '01 with 126,000.

75K aint even broke in yet. I have 135K on mine, 5 speed manual. It is a sweet rig and I love it better than any truck I have ever owned. It runs with a 27 foot gooseneck full of whatever like nothing is behind it. I went to the 5.9 Cummins from a 454 chevy and I am never going back, no comparison. Good luck with yours, you made a good choice.

You will love it and it will go many miles.
Did you get the auto or 5 speed?
If it is a stock auto, it will need some improvements some day. There are some real good shops around, far better than stock rebuilds. But pricey!

I echo Fox's sentiments. 5 speed manual!!!! If 5 speed automatic, some known problems, but there are aftermarket kits to fix that, if and when it happens. I had the dodge dealer rebuild my automatic because it's under warranty, and they'll keep fixing it until the warranty expires, should it need it. Otherwise, I love the truck. Just should've come with the Allison that GM's putting in theirs. Good luck, many happy hunderds of thousands of pulling miles more to you.
