Hi All,

This is the old tractor that I bought and felt that I had jumped in & bought before I should have given it a real good "think".

Anyway, I was so mad at myself for buying the thing that I (and my bull-headed-ness) vowed to get her back to where she should be. It is now new bumper to bumper.

The wife just asked me how much I had invested in it and I just told her that if it were 1980, I saved $3K less than the asking price when new. :>)

And so it goes,

Allan

Allen, she looks real nice. I have an M and I never though I liked the look of the later IH's. But your looks real nice. I bet she pulls real good also. How many bottoms can you pull with a tractor like that?

Hi Richard,

Actually, you could say that this is really no more than just an updated, glorified M anyway. lol

In this heavy-soil country and pulling at 8 to 10 inches, they pull a 3 bottom spinner very well. It's only about 62 horse at the drawbar, if I 'member right.

Thanks,

Allan

Dave,

Isn't that the darnedest thing? Weird how that works.

For the past few months, every time I walked by the old gal, it seemed like I had to reach for my darned wallet and it was never easy 'cause I knew I was going still deeper in the rears on this project.

Funny, but now I don't care anymore; but I'm still gonna try to buy a 'little smarter' next time.

Thanks for the comeback,

Allan

Looks very good Allen. You should be proud.

What type of paint did you use?

Allan, She is a Doll! Huba, Huba, Huba.
Great job on her she really looks better with the wheels cupped out. Did you get into any storms in the change out? OBTW won't your H feel rejected with all this attention being showered on the 656. Or did you replace it with this one? Any way I know you are proud of it.
Later,
John A.

Hi John!

I originally bought this thing thinking I'd put the loader over on it. But, the paint is still too green for that & the plans around here have changed a little anyway, so I guess the H has gotta stay under the F-11 for now.

'Sides, that old H yanks me back to the 1950's so fast, it makes my head spin and I like the feeling. :>)

I now want a 966 so bad I can taste it, but the wife has her heart set on a John Deere this time. So, I guess it depends if I run across a good 4020 in the nick of time. Ha

Thanks for the hollar,

Allan

Allan, A 966 is a tough tractor to beat IMO. My ol girl (966) will jerk a 13 shank chiesel just a flying. I am curently pulling a 13ft. IH 500 tandem disk w/ scholloped disked. Fronts are worn down to 20.5 in fronts and backs are 21.5 in. diameters. after my first chieseling at about 7 in. deep, this plow will run spindel deep, once the soil starts lapping over the spindel that is when my ol girl really gets back , deep into the governor and screams her lung out. OBTW she had a 5 ft straight pipe. She will turn out a lot of work. Hope you can find one like mine!
AS far as a Deere goes , depending on the use you may want to do look at, if bent on the 20 series 4320,4520,4620. All will have more hp, HD front axles all on the same 4020 platform. The HD fronts will elininate problems that the light 4020 front had when loaders were in use.
The 30 series tractors will work too, same price range better hydolics. ex...4230 ps with loader... is a 4020 in 30 skin.
Have fun on your tractor hunt. Keep us posted!
Later,
John A.
