Well I know this is way off topic but I figure you guys could help since this computer is far reaching.

I am on cloud 9 right now because we will be going to Maryland the 1st of next month to see my just born FIRST grandchild for the first time.

Any way while I am up there I would like to go see the Amish Country but do not know where to go. OK you tour guides out there what is a must see in the north Maryland south PA area. Where do I go to see a some good Amish working dairy land.

Thank You very much.
John
PS...Any old iron? Think the wife would be mad if I asked if we could take trailer just in case?

There are Amish in many parts of PA, but there is a concentration of them in eastern Lancaster County.
East and south of Lancaster City is the "prime" area if you want to see some working in a field.
Route 340 through Bird-in-Hand, Intercourse and White Horse, Route 30 east of Lancaster and Route 741 from Lampeter to Gap are roads you would want to travel. The area north of Route 30 and south of Route 23, in eastern Lancaster County, would probably give you the most to see in the shortest amount of time,(In my opinion). Although you may encounter Amish nearly anywhere in Lancaster County, and parts of Lebanon, Chester, York, Adams and Berks Counties too.
If you are near Kinzers PA )Route 30, near Gap)August 18-21 stop by at Rough & Tumble for our 56th Annual Threserman's Reunion.
By the way, have a good time while you're vacationing in my back yard ;)

Thanks for the links guys..... .....

Sorry Red Dave I will be getting there on the 4th and leaving on the 10th so I will have to take a rain check on the reunion. Also thanks for the routes and towns. I figure I can find the big tourist traps easy enough but this is what I was really looking for. A local that could tell me the off the beaten path spots to see a actual dairy or farm not some spruced up stuff just to impress the tourist.
After growing up in a dairy family I would like to see how others do it while I have the chance.
Thanks again
John

Have fun with the grandkid. Were meeting our twin 2.5 year old ones with daughter at our vacation home next week. It's a great feeling.

You could swing by Ohio and stop in around Berlin,Charm,Mt. Hope the Amish have a very profitable tourist trap set up in that area.

Tell your wife that the trailer is to haul home the tractor you intend to restore and give to your new grand baby. Shame that they didn't have twins, eh?
