HI GUYS-

MY 180 DIESEL WILL RUN FINE FOR AN HOUR THEN THE RPM WILL INCREASE ABOUT 400 RPM. I THROTTLE BACK AND AFTER A WHILE IT GOES AWAY. DOES IT AT IDLE TOO IN NEUTRAL. THE OTHER DAY IT HAPPENED AND I SHUT IT DOWN BUT INSTEAD OF CUTTING OFF IMMEDIATELY LIKE IT NORMALLY DOES, IT TOOK AWHILE. IS THIS SOME KIND OF SIMPLE FUEL PROBLEM? THANKS IN ADVANCE.

All good answers. The only thing that I would add, which was the last straw (after filters and return lines) was this: Rev up the tractor and then abruptly set the throttle to idle. If the engine seems dead (as rpm"s fall to idle) and then immediately jing, jing, jing"s nice and smoothly at the idle rpm"s your pump may be ok. Mine didn"t. Overhauled the pump (changing nothing else mentioned herein) and it fixed it. I think it"s Real Diesel on line did mine for bout $400 on a 6 cylinder distributor pump for a JD. They"re in N.C. and were real nice and punctual. Course if you know what you"re doing, I understand kits are like $25, but who sets it up when finished?

Mark

Better check for a restricted return line or more likely a plugged tank vent.

Check your injector pump. I had similiar issues and let it go till the tractor started quitting. Turned out the pump had worn sufficiently to allow fuel into the outer case.
