The oil ring in my deere B caught a bur on the petcock opening and broke a small piece of the oil ring off and rode it up and down the cylinder wall. How much is to much? I have honed it but I can still catch my fingernail on it. Thanks John

Mechanic in a can rarely works. Most mechanics won't get in a can , and if they do there isn't room for them to take their tools along .

If I were planning on keeping the tractor I'd sleeve/bore it. But this is your call. If it's just one deep scratch the worst that might happen is that that plug may oil foul once in a while and there may be some small compression loss.

Here's a trick I'll share with you. If you put it back in service as it is, add a can of "Restore". It really does work. It's not likley to heal a scratch that deep but it will fill it in some... maybe enough to solve the problem.

i work in a machine shop and i can tell ya the only way to fix it right is to bore the cyls.and of course get oversized pistons its cheaper to bore both and buy pistons then to sleeve one hole them sleeves are pricy and so is the labor cost involed in putting it in
