We've had our first killing frost. Many oaks and maples have turned fall colors. The hummingbirds have left. The bears have been ravaging what's left of the raspberries. Yesterday we saw flock after flock of geese heading south. Looks like winter will be 4-6 weeks early this year.

I'm near Duluth, MN.

Hey ron point those geese my way got a new 935 mossberg and a case of shells. But I agree with you our geese are moving earlier also. And august was very cool in cent ILL we had to buy coffee at the state fair pulls this year. Got down in to 40s here. And corn harvest has started already, but they say it will be 2-3 weeks late starting. I have a feeling this winter for us will be like 77-78 , spent a week on a sled getting stranded people . Heck even the trains got stuck, rode up to 45 miles to rescue crews, and then they fought who was going 1st bacause it was cold and I had just brought them hot food and coffee I would have been the same way going without for 30 hours. But lets hope it does snow so my carwashes stay busy my favorite words salt, slush ,sleet ,snow

us too in saskatchewan. Killing frost (-6�C) about a week ago, everything above ground is pretty much toast. I lost my entire market garden except for the root veggies, neighbours have lost entire canola and flax crops. We just got the first cut of hay before the frost.

We also have had unusual weather in Eastern Washington. Lots of years we get almost no precipitation from mid-July until mid-September and it is almost like a desert this time of year. I have measured just over 2.5 inches of rain in the last week in my rain gauge, which has to be a near record amount for August. It is supposed to get fairly seasonable for a few days and then get rainy again next week. The pastures are greening up like they usually do in October.....

It had been a very hot and dry summer and the yearly precipitation total was a couple of inches less than average. Now we are over the usual amount. I hope that most of the grain has been harvested around the area. Excess moisture or sprouting in the head is not usually a problem around here, but it could be something to consider this year. Crazy weather!

I sure don't know what to expect. We have had fairly mild winters for several years, with the coldest times being in November and December. Most of the West has been in a drought, so I hope the average or above average precipitation continues, even if it is snow.

Look at the bright side! The West Nile Virus took a major blow for the season along with the mosquitoes!!! At least a few good things happened out of this; Just not sure it equals the bad!

Been as cool and wet this year as I've seen it, only 1 day above 90 before today. Today was in the mid 90's, with humidity to match. Then tonight the storms came. I went out for a while and just got in, rain as hard as I've ever seen it.

We had our first light frost here 40 Miles SW of Denver, CO I don"t think it hurt the grass too much just all white roofs this morning. I noticed the swallows are gone and the hummingbirds are really scarce although I did hear one today. Can"t believe it"s August.

A week ago today here in NE SD we had a freeze that took out about 20,000 acres of soybeans in our county. Because of the cool dry weather up to then, the beans are not even good for forage due to small, unfilled pods.
I guess the old Native American was right when someone asked him why he thought it was going to be a early, hard winter. His reply was: "Bad winter coming, because I see Whiteman hauling heap much hay!"

I was helping a neighbor put sheet metal on his new shed today. Sweated through my shirt in the first five minutes. 94 degrees. I guess it does feel like November. You're probly right.

Over here in the Big Thicket the Love Bugs are showing up again, not as bad as I have seen them, have noticed more and different Humming birds around our feeder and having to fill it up more often, wife wanted to know why and I told her that they have been forced south by cooler/cold weather. Winter may not show up here for a while yet but I kinda expect this to be a cold one for this part of the country.

Well the one sign that we look for here in the deep south to tell if winter is starting or ending is the Love Bug. They come out every spring and fall.
I have been seeing them for about the past week or two.
So to all that live in the deep south get ready..... The Love Bugs are back and will be out in force any time now.

Well see that is the problem.
Love bugs only come out in the day time and are in such #"s that they seem to be on everything. They do not bite or anything they are just everywhere and seem to be attracted by the color white. This is what happens when you allow a bug to stow away on freight coming from central/south America that has no natural enemies here.

Then the sun goes down and out come the mosquitoes.

So now you can not go out side day or night with out bugs attacking you.

Ah yes.... Life in the swamp lands of south La. You got to love it. But I guess it is better than shoveling white rain to get to your car.

We have had below normal temps in north Ala. near Huntsville ( space center ) this year , we broke the recorded low of 52 ( 1964 ) by 1 degree a couple of weeks ago the highs were only 80 although we are back around 90 + or - now . I agree with you men that we are going to have a unusally colder winter.

To add to the signs you mentioned; The first of August , we noticed gray squirrels working hard at building nest. The bee's are acting goofy , like they do in the fall. Black birds are flocking together. We said the same thing(early winter). Dansville , NY
