Economy Tractor transmission??

This is my first post and I'm in a fix. I've broken a gear in my transmission in a homebuilt "garden tractor". I scrounged the tranny/rearaxle from my Wife's Grandma's barn and have been told it could be from an Economy tractor. Looking at some of the posted pics, that could be so. However, my transmission is bolted via a 4 bolt flange directly to a miniature automotive type differential/axle, about 23inches drum to drum wide.It has approx 5 inch dia. mechanically activated brakes with 4 lug bolts. I've added a link to a pic of the tranny, but you can't see the rear end. I'm in desperate need of the countershaft gear cluster or a whole tranny. Anybody have a clue if this is an Economy transmission, or if not what it may be and how to find parts? Thanks, Dick

From the one photo I would say it looks like an Economy transmission. The transmission was made by Borg Warner and is a model T92 I believe. These were used in the Economy, Speedex and maybe some other tractors and the Crosley cars. Hope this helps.

On e-bay there is one of those-may be too pricey, though. In search ask for " borg warner t92 ". It looks just like yours. Chris

I know nothing about Economy Tractors, but I drove one last week. When I asked what the shift pattern was I was told it was an "H" pattern "Crosley" transmission. Or maybe he said "Crosby", I'm not sure.

Sorry, but that's the sum total of my knowledge of Economy tractors. Hope it helps you some.

Crosley was the name of a car produced in the US after WWII, until the early 50s. Maybe smaller than the Kaiser-Fraser?

Yep, Powell Crosley made Crosley cars and refrigerators. The cars could be had in a 2 door sedan, 2 door station wagon and later on a little squirt sports car type called the Hotshot. They were a true "econobox" and then some. To give you some idea of their size, they took 4.00 X 12 tires and the windows didn't even crank down on some models, they were just 2 pane slidebys. Crosleys lasted only a few years like from 1946 to 1951 or 1952 I believe.

Isn't it fun to know that you could drive a refrigerator with four wheels on it? And that was before they thought of 'air conditioning'? Were they advertised in Mechanix Illustrated or Popular Mechanics back then?

Thanks for all the help. You're right, it is like the one in the Economy Tractor. Has a different input shaft, but no biggie. I discovered my neighbor 1 mile down the road has a stockpile of Economy tractors and parts, picked up a tranny last night for $50.00. And it does have T92 marks in the castings. Thanks for the replies. Dick
