I have had the head shaved, It had .003 clearance under straight edge. Installed with new gasket. I had the radiator checked. Clean bill of health. Set timing with light.New fan belt. New rad. cap. I'm at a loss. My next try is to run without pto on and see if still occures, but I can't feel excessive drag turning by hand. HELP!

That is a good point. It seems the engine is overheating, but after the one question posted I havent seen any water come out the overflow. It just starts running rough then stalls. The water isn't to the top, but visible. While I'm not seeing water out the overflow the engine is way to hot to the touch.I'm also having a hard time starting when it's warm.

Is it running hot or just got some coolant coming out the rad?You can fill these all the way up.

Just wanted to thank everyone that responded. The person that asked if I had water out the overflow set me in the answer. I realized I wasn"t loseing water. I Took the coil off my super c and tried it on the cub. I mowed 3.5 acres and no problems. I had always thought a coil was either good or bad. Apparently when the coil got hot it was causing the engine to run rough then quit. Thanks again

Kendall,
To add to your stab, which could well be right, - running with fuel mixture too weak.
Also pump impellor, thermostat, guage, tight engine. Unless they give us a bit more information, we are only guessing in the dark

Ecactly what makes you think it's overheating? Gauge? Engine runs rough after warmup? Coolant bubbling out the overflow?

By the way, .003" is near the upper service limit and if it was just shaved it should be dead flat.
