Which tractor, made before 1950, made in the U.S., had the fastest road gear as it came from the factory?

Thanks.

The Love and the Friday, both with Chrysler-built 6-cylinder engines, 5 speed New Process transmissions and two-speed rear ends, from the factory, had running speeds, listed, at 42 m.p.h.
on 12x24 rear tires in the 1947-1949 sales literature. (Both would exceed that if you had the intestinal fortitude to withstand it !)

Two models I have driven made before 1950 and really fast on the road would be the Number 2 Co-Op and a 3 wheel Silver King. Both would run close to 40 MPH and really make a hay wagon sway behind it. Of course I was a tad younger and a lot crazyer back then.

Just to let you know you might want to do a search on this topic here at YT. I read in Antique Power that there use to be tractor oval track racing. There was a Simpson that would hit 80 mph if I remember the article right. I know my Custom will get with the program and its almost the same tractor.

This might qualify. This is a copy/paste from the www.tractorace.com site.

"By 1930, in spite of the growing depression, more than 900,000 tractors were in use on U.S. farms -- nearly double the number in 1925. The Case Model DD was introduced that year, and is a good example of two trends that were current in the tractor business. It had three wheels instead of four, to make cultivation or row crops easier, and it was a general purpose tractor. Another idea just coming into vogue, though not on this model, was rubber tires, which gave farmers a smoother ride and more speed. Race driver Barney Oldfield about this time drove a rubber-tired tractor 64 mph, and once got a speeding ticket while driving a tractor through a small town in Indiana."

This was just stated on RFD-TV. They even showed a clip of the tractor. Of course I don't remember the make but I do remember they said something about 45 mph!

Essex Tri-D, probably; can't really tell because of the lack of documentation for serial numbers/year of manufacture..... ..

I think it was an essex that I passed with my WC allis which I kicked out of gear with a hay baler. Kinda made the Essex driver mad that I passed him. Neighbor did not keep his ezzex long because he wrecked it and the cultivator.

And on that note I also have a diesel truck that gets so good mpg while towing my tractors that we have to stop every 200 miles to drain the fuel tank so it won't run over! LMAO!!!!

Sorry but I couldn't resist.:)

Silver King gets my vote. I had a three wheel once and I wasn't brave or crazy enough to open it all the way up on the road.
