Last week I posted a message about a friend who was struck by a falling tree limb while bush hogging. At that time he was completely paralyzed and not expected to live. He was transferred to the Mayo Clinic, and has regained some feeling and managed to move his shoulders a little. Prognosis now is that he stands a good chance of making a complete recovery, but it will take several months. He has surprised everyone, including the doctors. My thanks for everyone's thoughts and prayers.

That is excellent news! It does tell me we really should check on our neighbors when we see something out of place. Plenty of things can happen and it's scarry to think of having to wait days for someone find you.

Good Point, Chris.....When my Dad was living (Alone) , several neighbors checked up on him if things did not look right. He did the same for others, too. Many times, if I could not get him on the phone at night, I would drive down to check up on him. Always said I was just in the area & stopped to say "Hi"... Here on our road, most of us know other's schedules & check if something seems odd..... Regards, Davis

Good, absolutely glad to hear it. Hope complete recovery and much success. Last weekend, my brother was helping me put in railroad ties as fence posts, and I told him about your post, about the simple everyday fluke accident that went the worst way possible. We talked about all of the meaningless, dumb close calls that we've had that could've gone just as awry. It was a humbling, yet thought provoking conversation.

A person farms everyday, and one day gets stung by a yellow jacket for the first time ever, and turns out to be highly alergic, and... Who would've known? But it happens - that tree limb that's been there forever, and...

Hope you and your friend get to play a game of checkers over a beer someday, or again.

That's really good news! A few years ago our neighbor was at a state park, sitting with her family at a picnic table located under a large tree. This was on a still, clear day, and without warning, a huge limb fell out the tree. She is still confined to a wheel chair, paralyzed from the neck down. I pray that your friend makes a complete recovery.

John, Was this the guy that snagged the vine with his loader and spent like 36 hours in the ditch before anyone came looking for him?

If so, can't believe it. One tough hombre.

That's the one, he spent about 36 hours slumped over the steering wheel unable to move.
