I am about to purchase a 2010 but have a question regarding a fluid leak from under the seat. It is a clear fluid that drips out at a slow pace when the tractor is off. The drip is directly under the seat behind a plate that is held in by bolts. When the tractor is turned on and put into gear the leak increases to a steady stream. The owner says that it is nothing big and that he just keeps it topped off. Is this a major problem or is this something that I can fix easily. I am a newbie to tractors but have a somewhat general idea of mechanics. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Don't walk away from this deal because to this leak - - RUN. You will be buying a big headache. The previous owner is blowing you smoke. Probably the reason he is selling the thing.

I don't mean to get into your bizzness, but have you asked the fellers on the forum here about the overall feel for the 2010. You may have found a gem, but they get less than rave reviews around here. My cousin that farms next to me has one. He bought it running, but in rough looking condition. He has had a lot of knit-picky trouble with it (I know you'll find some in any brand), but he says he ahs had more than one JD mechanic tell him that the 2010 might well be one of the worst tractors ever made. He says he wouldn't have another one, but his gets the job done.

I'm not mechanically familiar enough the the 2010 to tell you anything about that leak. Try posting the question over on the JD board. I've seen a lot of 2010 discussion over there.

Mitch

I had a 2010 as my first tractor and it was just
a total nightmare. It was a used diesel that I
had to repair daily. You name a part, it broke.
It was the type of machine that parts would break
while it was parked in the barn at night. Even
the John Deere dealer couldn"t fix this thing. I
think the leak sounds like the hydraulic pump
area. Mine leaked too and I had that pump out 10
times replacing O-rings where it mounted. I would
look for a different tractor that has a better
track record, which is about any other.

Later production 2010's weren't quite so bad. The '61, '62, and '63 models were Hand grenades with-out a pin. Only a matter of time before they went off. If it's made it 40 years, it probably isn't one of the "bombs". Still, That's one tractor Mother Deere would have rather not built. Don't put a lot into it. John

Hi John,

We had the opposite experience; Darned thing ran like a million bucks.....just wasn't horse enough nor had weight enough to do anything except pull a rotary hoe…kinda a wimpy little thing.

She didn't last long.....went down the road in less than two years. We called it our "pregnant mosquito" tractor. :>)

He bought this one in the early 90's and right straight way rebuilt the engine. Since then he's used it to spray, rake hay, and feed hay. He's all the time working on the pto.
