I'm rebuilding a Perkins 3cyl. diesel engine, & am having trouble finding the engine torque specifications. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Mark

I should have read the post-ups before I sent message, however if you want a FO-18 manual, call 1-800=757-7627, that's the # for Highlands Tractor, Highlands,Texas. He still has some in the rack, I was looking at them last Friday. Happy motoring to you. Jerry

Here's your torque specs from an I&T Shop Manual::
Rods: cadium nuts 50-55, or locking nuts 65-70-
Mains 90-95
Head: 55-60
Injectors: 40-45 then check for compression blow by, if leaking, completely loosen and try again, may have to tighten more, be sure tube is clean and use new washer.
Valves: both intake and exhaust 0.010 engine at operating temp.
If you have trouble finding parts or need advice call Diesel Parts Co.- Houston, Tex 1-800-683-4439
oil filter is Fram CH813Pl Carquest 85188, Wix 51188. Fuel filter-Carquest 86194, NAPA 3194. Fram C11816BTL
both the 144 and 152 cubic in engines set the same, if you need to know anything else just holler. Oh yeah, address to mail order service manual is I&T Shop Service, Technical Publications Div, Intertec Publishing Corp, PO Box 12901, Overland Park, Kansas 66212.
Good luck on your Dexta, hope this will help, Jerry

Mark,

The IT shop manual number FO-18 has all the information you need to rebuild that engine and lots more. I think it's available for purchase on this site - I've purchased several manuals and have been very pleased. If FO-18 isn't available, there is an IT collection that covers Dexta. They're great manuals!

Mark,

Sorry - I kinda suspected that particular manual was out of print, but I swear that I saw a different IT collection on a site somewhere that covered Dexta. It's not here, I just checked, but I'll try to track it down... memory's not as good as it used to be. Anyway in the meantime, if you'll e-mail me a list of the specs you need (just click on my name in the from line), I'll find them in the manual and send them back. They're imbedded in the text and would really help to have a list to check off.

Regards - tony

I'm about to buy one of these tractors. It's a 63 or 64 Dextra with a 3 cylinder diesel that's pretty tired. We couldn't get it started when I looked at it, but I could see the tire marks in the grass where he had just driven it in. Looks pretty solid, but sounds like a main bearing or more likely a connecting rod is slapping. He wants $1500 for it. Condition otherwise is pretty good, rubber, body, mechanics, etc. New head and rebuilt hydraulics 5 years ago. Where can I buy manuals for this one? I've been all through gas engines, but never even owned a diesel...are they any harder to rebuild?
Thanks,
Ed

COST WAS JUST SHORT OF 500.00 (I DID THE WORK) THIS WAS MY FIRST DEISEL.THIS IS A PERKINS DIESEL AND I UNDERSTAND THIS ENGINE IS USED IN M/F ALSO.
