Next year will see us planting a couple acres of sweetcorn, a couple acres of greenbeans, and a hodgpodge of other veggies. I bought a #71 flex planter to handle the planting chores. My neighbor wants a few "food plots" planted on his property. The thought entered my mind to "no-till" them for him with the flex planter. I would need to add some weights on the toolbar, in order to get the disc openers in the ground. Has anyone ever tried this? I don't want to move my 8 row 7200 planter just to do a couple acres. John

what kind of beans do you grow? started growing a new variety here last year. name is "magnum". it is a bunch type that produces very well. makes a nice tall bush. beans are the flat type around 6 -7 inches long and "HAVE NO STRINGS". everyone around here are going ga ga over them. also they make in 45 days.

A suggestion: I would install a coulter for each row on the toolbar along with a gauge wheel and the weight the toolbar to get enough down pressure so the coulters would penetrate. Then let the planter units float.Several years ago I sold some coulters to Stoneycreek Farms,Noblesville,In. and they rigged their 71 planter this way so they could no-till pumpkins. It worked for them.

Kinda the way I was thinking....I have already visited Yetter's website. (They now make and sell the #71 unit planter) They have a full line of coulters, and other "attachments" that would be of great assistance in setting up a no-till system. I'm working on a set of gauge wheels off of an old cultivator. I have 8 "Elevator test weights" that would be ideal for adding weight to the toolbar. They weigh 60 lbs each. It would be a "trial and error" experiment to determine the amount of weight needed. Thanks for your reply. Now I at least know that I'm not "barking up the wrong tree", and that someone else had done what I'm wanting to do. John
