Hi Guys,

Been nosin' around looking at machinery. Found the plow I want, 'cept they want $700 more than I gave for a brand spankin' new one 30 years ago.

This darned old iron is kinda spendy!

And so it goes, I guess. :>(

Hi Billy,

Yes, I'm north of Scottsbluff.

This dealer is asking $4700 for this one. This is irrigated country and we definitely still gotta have the plows.

Mornin' Rick,

Thanks, but I'm bull-headily locked into this one. :>)

Gotta have a Massey 4 bottom spinner to plow in both directions. I just didn’t realize that they were still so darned spendy. :>(

Hey Allan,
If we only had all that stuff we got rid of through the years... I can think of lotsa stuff I've 86'd that I'd really like to have now! Oh well, as you say, so it goes! Since you're looking at machinery, guess that means you decided to buy the property and get back at it?? Hope all is going well. What part of Nebraska you in? I'm your neighbor a couple of miles to the west in Wyoming. Been hoping for rain all summer... now that the leaves are turning, we're getting a few drops every few days... won't do much good now, but I guess it's better than nothing at all.
(if I were you, I'd buy the plow... couldn't tell you how many times I've looked at something I wanted to buy, then decided to ponder it a bit... when I went back after making up my mind, stuff was gone) (my wife gets tired of hearing me saying "should'a" so now when we see something, she all but forces me to buy it right away... good woman, she is!)
Regards, DL

Hi Delbert,

We live 80 miles east of the line and in the last month or two, I swear we've kicked over every stone in eastern wyo looking for dirt; yep, we're on a mission. :>)

Thanks for the hollar,

Allan

If you would like a good semi mount steerable plow 4-14 etc come to eastern Kansas can buy a real good one for under a hundred dollars. Might even have the cylinder on it. Might need to spend sometime in the coffee shop asking think you could come up with one real cheap. They don,t use them much here any more.

They are also cheap here in cent Ill to, saw a bunch at a dealer going to the torch. every thing from a 3 to 10 bottom. I have seen plows on lots not move for 15 years or more. a man could buy them cheap. I have only seen 1-2 farmers in a 500 square mile area use one. Allen how does the gauge wheel saty at the same depth when you roll that plow, and I like the idea of no dead furrows.

Hi Leland,

When she spins, the plow rotates in a manner (direction) whereby the gauage wheel moves "under the plow" and over to the other side as she comes up into positon.

The gravity then releases a "rocking" lock on gauge wheel letting it drop down into it's 'other' catch. In other words, the gauge wheel is mounted on kind of a 'hinge'.

only saw one in my life out here but never got close to it. I think that it would be a nice plow to work with, no laying out lands or dead furrows.

Leland,

Yes, and also no wasted time running back and forth across your head lands.

I know lots of people use 'em, especially the dry landers, but I've never, ever seen a one way plow operate either....:>)

Hi ya Allen,

Give an old man a little slack here and indulge me my dingy old dreams, would ya? :>)

This "hobby venture" of mine is just my relivin' my farmin' days and I wanna do it once again like I used to before that darned farm sale took away everything I owned and tied me to this lousy desk.

I know farmers don't plow much anymore, but I want to give 'er another run like I used to with the same old toys.

So, I guess I just gotta have that Massey 4 bottom spinner even if it is bumpin' way up there in price. :>(

Thanks for the hollar back Ol' Bud,

Allan
