Gave a guy couple loads of scrap iron to clean up the place. Now have life collection (big truck load) of old tires I like to get rid of. Any ideas? Seems to me the millions of spent tires removed daily could be used for fuel. They burn hot. Don't we have technology to clean up the emmissions from burning them?

You should have made him a deal, take the tires and the metal. It's amazing how tires and batteries collect, At last count we have around 50 old batteries, and who knows how many tires to get rid of. I guess I will end up paying to get rid of them. Years ago we had our own dump, now there are houses on top of it. Good luck with your tires, I don't think there is a legal way to get rid tires free anymore

Ameren Electric burns them at plant SW of St. Louis. There's a company called Tire Shredders that charges something like $1.65 to dispose of your old tire. My buddy the electrical contractor wired them up a 50 HP electrical motor.

I'm getting a load ready as we speak.

I believe, if I"m not mistaken, in the state of Ohio that if they"re cut in two...they can be hauled to the landfill. I haven"t read the law on this but the fellow down the road that owns an auto wrecking yard bought a machine that pushes the rim out of the tire and the other end cuts the tire in two and this is the story that he told me. He said he had 14000 wheels to do. (est.) The last time I went to the landfill, they charged me one cent a pound for dumping...small ton dump truck load...$66.01. Even if a semi tire weighed a hundred pounds it would still be only $1 and that sounds cheap to me. Fred OH

But these old tires will cost you out the butt to get rid of around here semi tires cost around 10-15 each to get rid of. that is why a lot get burnt at 2 oclock in the morning.

I believe they can be ground and shot into a furnace with air to burn very clean. Might be a good way to generate electricity.

Here in Michigan there is a wood fired power plant and a coal fired cement plant that are allowed to burn a certain quantity of old tires. They ran tests with the EPA to determine the correct amount to burn without exceeding emission limits.
