I read this board daily and politics are not a frequent topic. I do note that when there is a discussion it brings in a lot of comments so there is interest. People ask questions or make comments about all sorts of things here that are not "tractor talk" per se, trucks or dogs or neighbors, or whatever, but it is all good. I think it would be bad to censor any particular topic. I think current events are legit topics. By the way, you are doing a fine job.

I'm with Kim- if people want to rant and rave about this stuff go to a political rally. Otherwise just vote(besides that voice, everything is useless banter)- nobody (or me at least) gives a hoot about your political opnions.

Kim's pool, Kim's rules. If she doesn't like you skinny dipping in it. It's her choice and her right to toss your butt out.

It appears that she has. I started reading this site because it was described as a place to dicuss misc. tractor subjects. I have read the statment on more than one occassion " If you do not like the subject don"t read the post" that is well and good but the purpose of this site is tractor related subjects. If for example someone invites someone over to watch a football game and that person or persons keep wanting to watch a basketball game and keeps changing the channel they are just plain rude. Censorship has nothing to do with it. Common courtesy does and in my opinion common courtesy does not exist when people insist on bending the guidelines. If I understood Kim right she stated that there are other forums to discuss other subject on the Internet and she preffers that those who desire to do so go to those sites. Now my question is are we going to abide by he wishes or are we going to keep pushing buttons until someone overreacts and really starts a big stink?

Like she said, we're family and here to enjoy each other's company. This site gets a lot of traffic so it must have some sort of charisma to attract folks.

I like to discuss a variety of topics with my friends and I feel my friends are here. There's more to discuss with your friends than tractors, per se. Going to explain the rest by using a paradigm.

Take a small town with 3 coffee shops. Go to each and take an assessment of the customers and conversations. Come back several times and check it out again. What you'll find (I'd bet...I know) is that each shop has it's own charisma and they are all different. There are reasons why the customers choose the shops they frequent.

Same thing applies here. Have lots of forums (shops) but you (I) feel like making certain conversations at certain ones.

My 2c.

Mark

I am relatively new here. I have benefited greatly from the information that I have come across FOR FREE. That means something to me. I think we ALL ought to THANK Kim heartily for ALL of her efforts on our behalf. She is showing great tolerance and allowing what most of us want, as long as some clear and simple guidelines are followed. Now, Thank You Kim. I hope your pain lessens and your off the couch soon. You have an EXCELLENT SITE, and may it continue to be as you wish it.

I've discussed this before and will mention it again - plus I'm laid up at home on the couch with severe pain so I may even get wordy ;)

If you read this, please read it to the end so you do not take individual statements out of context.

POLITICS AND RELIGION
===== ===== ===== ===
I prefer that we do not talk politics or religion here. Why? Because 99 out of 100 end up in a forum brawl with name calling and foul language. Is it my intention to limit free speech? Of course not. But there are forums set up for that type of conversation and I would prefer you go there.

That said, political discussions do still come up now and again. I don't normally delete them unless they get too frequent, get out of hand, or are generally started with ill-will to begin with.

OFF TOPIC DISCUSSIONS
===== ===== ===== ====
While our focus is old tractors, we are also a community of individuals, friends and in some cases darn near family. We talk about our tractors, then "hey by the way, my truck won't start". I see no problem with that. Again I repeat, we are a community and I care a lot about that aspect of the site.

Number one rule about off topics: They should not dominate the forums. That has always been my loudest request. The largest percentage of posts should be regarding tractors. Also, in off topics remember to treat each other kindly. But please, do feel free to talk to each other about things other than tractors.

CENSORSHIP
===== ===== =
I will delete any and all conversations, tractor related or not, religious, political or not where people are calling each other names or in general acting uncivil. Is it my intention to limit free speech? Of course not. If you walk into any public place in the U.S.A. and start behaving like an animal you will most likely get carted off in the back of a police car. Here at YT I'll just remove the conversation. ;)

BOTTOM LINE
===== ===== ==
We're all here because we enjoy old tractors. But we also enjoy other things and it's okay to talk about them. The politics are heavy right now due to the elections, I understand that. I'd prefer you talk religion and politics elsewhere but if it happens here I'll probably leave it on the forums if it doesn't degrade into something uncivil or become too frequent.

AND FURTHER MORE... ;)
===== ===== ===== ===== ==
If you do find a thread has gotten out of hand, please let me know. I don't read every one, I just can't much as I would like to. Just click on [expand] and then click on the "Report to Moderator" link. All reports are anonymous, I don't report to others who reported things to me.

Have a great day everyone, now back to the couch for me!!!

Kim

Well said Kim. I'm the guy that asked a month or so ago to not have politics or religion. Asking for prayers is OK by me.
My reason was that people get mad at each other. And start name calling and such. For the most part this has not happened. I am greatly suprised at the maturity and good sence of most of the people here. This makes me quite happy. What a bunch of good people. (Even tho I disagree with a lot of you dumb ol farmers) BIG GRIN

We have one more month of campaighning - I can endure that. We may have a couple months of court scrapping and recounts- thats some more fun. Does anybody like the idea of trial by combat for the election?? RN.

Yeah, Pistols at 10 paces like in the old days, or maybe jousting on tractors. That would be neat to watch.

Pretty close on the jousting. Every 4th of July for the past decade or so, it's potato guns on tractors out in a pasture. To keep it safe, we all wear them 10 gallon soup pots as helmets and body armor. Makes it kind'v hard to see, steer, and shoot with them big soup pots comin' down to our waists, but that don't stop us from havin' some fun.

Speaking of Potato Guns....
A neighbor was asking me about making one. Does anyone have any good plans, suggestions, materials, sizes, propellents ? Fourth of July is long gone so our accesss to fire crackers and cherries are gone or dried up although we still have our cherry shooters around. 'Course I don't know what I did with them, I think I may have used the pipes for a tractor repair of some sort. There, I sorta kept it ON-TOPIC.

I find it very easy to skip over any OT posts that don't interest me, but, to tell the truth, I read most of them. I've learned a lot here by reading OT posts!

It's sorta like sitting at the local coffee shop!

Keep up the good work, Kim, and I hope everyone has enough sense to "police" their own posts, to keep from being deliberately inflammatory, or disrespectfull to fellow posters!

Last time I looked this discussion board was called tractor talk not political speak.

Occasional off topic items are ok but we seem to be getting a lot more of them lately

Perhap a political discussion board or an anything goes board. How about an off topic board.
