John,

How much would you pay for an IH 966 with an in-frame rebuild? Tryin' to get a value on the thing.

Thanks,

Allan

Allan,

You put the fox in charge of the hen house. This guy has green writen all over him and you're asking him to quote red? What do you want a low ball price? LOL.

Didn't you see the green 3/14 moldboard he just restored..... ....and the green lift arms holding it up, from an obviously green tractor.....Hmmmmm m. What's this world coming to?

Now restoring a tractor with fresh paint and new decals and all is one thing; but a green plow, and painted the blades and coulters too? (Seriously, did do a superb job.)

I'd bet his house is green and the trim is yellow. LMAO

Mark

Now Mark,

I did this for a reason; little did I know that he would actually come back with a civil and pretty darned accurate figure. LOL!

I figured the way he hates the red, he would come back with a total scrap-iron price. Then as we well-informed IH guys all know, you would then take that figure, multiply it by 20 and be right in the ball-park. :>)

Gotta keep ol' John on his toes, ya know. :>)

Well, I guess thank you is in order for the compliments on the plow. (Coulters and bottom parts were black right out of the box....didn't paint THEM) I buy and sell ANYTHING I can make a nickel on... Basic rule of survival. I am somewhat partial to the 66 series Internationals though. I always thought they were the best looking tractor IH ever built. I would even consider owning one. (It would only be allowed out of the barn after dark though) I made a point to say they sell cheap around here. I don't know the market away from here. They MIGHT sell higher in some places, but the bottom has fell out of the IH (bigger) tractor market here.

And the house is Bedford stone, with white trim. (The shop is green though..... ) John

i would say 7-8k here in east central south dakota would sound about right. how's the rest of the tractor? T/A? clutch? rearend? i'd hate to see the motor rebuilt, you drive it home and hook up the plow only to find something else!!!

Howdy Allan,

I'm going to break this question down into several parts.

Part 1. How much would I give for a 966?
I'll answer this question with a question. Is it painted GREEN?

Part 2.

How much is a 966 worth? Being a big fan of the --66 series IH tractors, I'm a bit biased. They sell at a low price around here. I don't know why, other than the fact we have no Case/IH dealer with-in 50 miles. (I've always wanted a 1066) They sell at auction for $4000 to $5500 depending on condition. I don't remember the last 966 I saw around here. If it's in good condition, and the motor is fresh, I'd say around $5500 to $6000 wouldn't be too far out of line.

I'm not the consumate authority on IH tractors though. I'll do some "asking around". I know just who to ask. I'll get back with you on this.

Have a good'un,
John

I would like your e-mail address. I have tractor questions I would like to ask you. Plus, could I possibly find original or copies of original manuals for my Super A? Very disappointed with the aftermarket junk.

Leland,

I think we have a bad connection here. You must think you are talking to someone else.

The last nickel I saw floating around here loose was an Indian head and that buffalo on the back was a bellerin' to high heaven because he couldn't find the rest of the herd.

I'm tellin' ya, my life is just one long, horrid grind! :>)

Steve,

No, it is really bad here.

When I walk down the street and should happen to see my banker walking my way, he always crosses over to the other side of the street before he gets to me.

Another thing, when the census taker came around, he asked me if my parents had produced any children that had actually lived.

I’m so darned ugly that when I’m thirsty, I even have to sneak up on the glass to get a drink of water.

Further, and for some darned reason, when I go into a restaurant, they always ask me if I’ve had all my shots.

I dunno, things are just tough around here.

Allan
