I dropped my old propane company last week and get this they sent me a bill for $21 for the 4 blocks that the tank sat on, my new tank is sitting on the four blocks so I cant give them back. But there was 90 gallons of propane in the tank that I had to forfeit which is worth $100 to me, and these bozos want another $21 out of me. I am kind of *issed about this and was wondering what would you guys do in this situation. The wife says to pay the $21 so that our credit doesnt get screwed up, but with me it is the principal of the thing and I dont like being nickel and dimed. I have payed these yahoos over $10,000 in the past 5 years. What would you do.

I had a 500 gal tank removed the comany just left the blocks. I think they are messing with you. I was told by the company they don't make 500 gal tanks, but tanks are 499 gal. for some reason unknown to me. Is this correct? Stan

Did you ask your new tank owner to exchange 4 bricks for the four under your tank?

Midwest, I am in the process of changing propane companys. I let them know about mid summer of my intent, I set my new tank next to theirs and told them they could pickup their tank when I had used the propane that I paid for. I checked yesterday and the gauge shows empty but it still has 100 lbs pressure. They wont get the tank untill the fire dies out. And Midwest, It is their job to get the blocks, what would they say if you told them to pick them up? you could always change your mind if they came to get em Redmud:

I am going to send them a letter saying the following: Pay me the $100 for the 90 gallons of propane in the tank and then I will pay you your *^&^$ $21. If they still insist on the $21 and say they are going to take me to small claims or what ever then I will go in and pay the $21 in Pennies, just like one of the postings indicated. I can be a real arsehole if I want too.

Just buy 4 new ones and toss them in your local posion ivy patch and call them to come and get them.

Or you banned them together and see if the guy/gal can pick them up.

Propane companies appear to be a funny business from what I've seen and what I'm hearing. The place I bought a few months ago has a 500 gallon tank. Figured the old owner owned it, at least that was the impression I'd gotten from them. Well, turns out their suppler is the same company my brother-in-law works for. Right out of the block, I've gotta get my propane through him, at his rate, no one else can touch it, blah, blah, blah. Hey, he's my brother-in-law, what do I know. OK, I do. I got a one year contract in the mail, to lease "their" tank, and they sent a guy to fill me up to 400 gallons (80% tank max). OK. It had 150 gallons in it to begin with, and they billed me for that. I didn't say anything, he's my brother-in-law, but I'm guessing the original owners already paid for it once. But, he's family, my sister's husband, so I keep my mouth shut to keep peace. Then they fill me to 400, and I got billed about a $1.00 a gallon, and that's good, because without his break it's almost double. Good deal. Problem is that my brother-in-law's one of those guys that always knows better than anyone, everyone, including the boss. Never stays at one place long - doesn't get fired, just doesn't let dust settle on his shoes long. Now is talking about leaving those guys, and without his break, is one of the highest suppliers on the market. So high in fact, is/are losing customers left and right, and told me that farmers in his 3 state region that are contracted and can't afford LP prices for their driers have turned corn under to cut their losses.

Between everyone here and the wall, %3@(*&^@?"^$# that $&^%#@)(!!!!, but when I'm with the family, I keep my mouth shut, because he's family, my sister's husband.

Sounds like the five faulty truck engines I had done through my father-inlaws rebuild shop. I'll pay depreciation on new vehicle now instead of doing any major repairs that requires somebody else to do the work. Or requires major capital outlay for parts I install.

Id send them a very nice letter, very professional and tell them that they had an opportunity to get theri property when they got the tank. If they want the $21 thats fine but they'll have to sue to get it.

If they want to turn it in to the credit bureaus (which they wont) simply sue for damages. They know you will win, as they abandoned them.

I would pay them..... in pennies.....unrolled. My guess is it will cost more than $21 to get them counted and rolled. Get a receipt.

Title 31 (Money and Finance), Subtitle IV (Money), Chapter 51 (Coins and Currency), Subchapter I (Monetary System), Section 5103 (Legal Tender) of the United States Code states:

United States coins and currency (including Federal reserve notes and circulating notes of Federal reserve banks and national banks) are legal tender for all debts, public charges, taxes, and dues. Foreign gold or silver coins are not legal tender for debts.

I got in a fight with my propany comapany mainly because they kept letting us run out. So after the last fill up I sent them a registered letter forbidding them to enter my property and informed them I would notify them when the tanks were empty and they could come get them. I informed them that I would charge them with trespassing if they entered my property without my permission. There's more to the story, but in general, they screwed up too many times and I always paid my bills. I then found another supplier, bought one large tank - 1000 gallons for $1200 which I hated to do - but now, I own it. The guy filled it for $1.19 a gallon which is a good deal for this area in Central New York. The previous place was charging me $1.49 per gallon and refused to provide me with a large tank. This way, we got every bit of our gas from the old tanks before giving them up.

Were they concrete blocks??? If so, new ones only cost about a buck or buck-fifty each... if it were me, I think I'd go buy 4 brandy new ones, drive 'em down to the accounting office, and personally carry 'em in and slam 'em down on someone's desk! Be sure to get a receipt for them before you leave!
Can you tell I've about had it with our utility companies as well??? What're ya gonna do???

I'd check the original contract and see if the blocks were written on there. If the blocks weren't on the original contract with the delivery of the tank, then ask them to prove those blocks are theirs.

I guess my propane company wasn't as bad as I thought, they were slow about picking up my tank but did credit me for the LP . I kept the regulator and the blocks. I only had 5 or 10% in the tank but switched the gague with a broken one that was stuck on 20% so I got them. I have heard horror stories from other people around here about propane companies.I guess most all of these LP companies are A holes what's wrong with them ?

Midwest redneck, Guys, The sooner ya'll quit renting and start owning your tank the sooner these kind of problems go away. As others know, who own too, YOU are free to shop around for your best price on every load you get. Will never rent again. Its too cheap, not too. Later,
John A.

Amen to that. Dad always owned his tanks. House and a sawmill Lp fuel tanks. Shopped around for best price. Never yet had a company refuse to fill an owned tank. Tank purchases were money well spent.

I would write them a letter and explain that you will pay the $21 when they have paid for the fuel still in the tank. Send them a bill each month with interest added on and if they don't pay ask the local constable to press charges.

Buy 4 blocks of the same size and take them to the company. Get them to mark the bill paid. But if you decide to pay the bill, on the line on the lower left side showing the nature of the payment, write in " For sxxual favors".

I believe I'd write them a nice letter and express surprise that they didn't take the blocks with them when they picked up the tank. When they didn't, you just assumed they didn't want them, so now the new tank is set up on them. Now that you are aware that they want the blocks, you will certainly make a mental note to call them when the current tank is removed, so they can come and get them. At that time, you will remove the blocks and set them out by the county road for pickup, because, of course, they would be trespassing if they came on your place to get them. In the meantime, the $100 worth of propane they got will partially offset their $21 loss, and as a courtesy, you won't be pursuing them for the difference. Keep a copy of the letter, and if they turn you over to collections, send copies of the letter to the credit bureaus (you are entitled to have a "letter of explanation" for disputed bills on your credit report). Lenders pretty much just laugh when they see a disputed $21 item on an otherwise good credit report.

Sounds like the same thing I went through 2 years ago. I switched to another supplier. New 1000 gal. tank for $1.00 a year. Cheaper lp price also. I called National and told them they could come and get their tank out of my yard. It still had $100 worth of their lp in it that I had already paid for. I did not care, I was sick of them. They finally came and got their stuff and promtly sent me a bill for removing "hazerdes" material. Since it was around Christmas time I wrote a check for the amount they wanted and sighned it Merry Christmas you money grubbing SOB's. 2 weeks later I got the bill and my check back with a note attached say how ofended they were that I called them names.

I think i'd just throw 4 concrete blocks in the pickup, write up a bill for $100, and go down there and hand deliver that to them.

You would probably have to sue to have any hope of recieving the money. Probably wouldn't be worth it. But I'd give 'em the blocks anyway.

A number of years ago I changed propane companies and I handled the situation like this. I got a bill for $50.00 that was for them to come pick up their tank. However in my case I got the bill before they picked up the tank. I notified them to come get the tank and was told if I did'nt pay the bill a report would be sent to the credit burea. I made up my mine things were going to get pretty cold in -ell before I paid that $50.00 and having an attorney in the family I asked some advice. I was told that since I had given them notice to pick up their tank verbally, I needed to notify them in writing. So when I got the 2nd bill and the tank was still here I wrote on the bottom of the bill they needed to get the tank away within 48 hrs. or I would dispose of it. It went another 15 days letters were getting nasty and at that point as the attorney had predicted I could inform the gas company that they had recieved written notice and therefore they were going to be charged $3.00 per day for storage of the tank from the time I sent them written notice. Also if the tank was not removed within 7 days I would pursue the matter in small claims court. Needless to say the tank was removed ASAP and the matter settled totally to my satisfaction No credit report filed etc. A lot of these big companies try to bully people and they get away with it because the American people are to lazy in most cases to stand up for whats right.
It's so easy to say it's only $21.00 etc.
