Well, my wife has me started on a project to re-paint the whole house (inside). It needs it and I do not really mind it, however, there has to be a better way!! I use throw away everything when painting. Brushes, rollers, paint pans... SOOOO much easier than having to clean up everything at the end of each day. The problem is that old fashioned rollers and brushes are just too slow. I have tried a wagner paint roller (piece of junk), wagner sprayer (too messy and also a piece of junk) and wondered what others are using to speed up their paint jobs.

I do like that with a roller and brush it seems to come out perfect as I have the most control over the paint.

ANyone stumble upon a great painting tool or have some tricks? Or should I shut my wastegate and just get it done?

Thanks

Phil

Tiny has the right idea! If I have to paint though I do it on a clear night with a full moon. Don't know if the paint sticks any better but I can see what I am doing. Ed

Painting stinks plain and simple. But a few techniques I learned over the years. 1. I use the roller on a stick and dunk the roller into a 5 gallon pail and roll it right on the wall. 2. or get an air compressor and a paint gun with a pressure tank, makes it much faster as long as you are painting one color. 3. Preping the areas is what takes the longest, as long as painting itself. If you need to get new carpeting then prep time is not too bad. Good luck, have fun.

Lowes had this thing that you put a lid on thge can or something and sucked the p[aint out and used it like a roller pushing out the paint as you need.I preimed inside my whole house with that, only took a day,but was it worth the price, probably not and it was really usless when it cam time to paint, kept having to clean it out so I just went with the regualr rollers.

Wagner stuff is terrible... in reply to John M, 11-13-2004 08:16:26
I have to tell you my experiences with Wagner stuff...

I purchased a wagner tool that yopu place a can of paint in and it was supposedly suppose to suck the paint out. It kept clogging up and was a bear to keep clean. I gave up, threw it out and used a roller. OH, and was it ever loud!!! WHOOOOAAA

The a year ago I thought to myself "self, wagner hopefully fixed there quality issues so give'em a try". What a mistake. I bought a power roller. At first I thought it was a grwat tool. Not too loud, easy to use. Then it happened. The stupid cheap clear rubber hose that plugs into the paint roller literally fell out!! Paint started to spew everywhere from the hose. Of course I was in a hurry to shut it off and by accident tripped over a full gallon of paint and spilled all of it onto carpet! CARPET!!!!! !!!!! UUgghh... All because some engineer decided that it was ok not to include some type of hose clamp for the tube.

NEVER AGAIN!!!!!

I asked about better ways to paint and about Wagner cause maybe someone else has found a better tool.

Thanks

Phil

Why was your roller paint tube okay for priming but not for regular paint? Last time I painted indoors I used a Wagner Paint Mate that dispenses paint from the roller's handle, worked okay for me. Definately faster than having to dip a plain roller in paint so often. Only drawback is cleaning it, so you want to do a lot when you get it dirty.

It worked for painting fine, but with 17 rooms in my house to paint, each one a different color it wasnt worth the hassel to keep stopping and cleaning the roller,or worth the money to chagne it each time, they are like 8 bucks each. With the primer,it was all one color, didnt need to switch rollers or clean it out for a differnet color. The tube itself had to be cleaned out and the paint can adapter thing had to be cleaned out each time.I bought the cheapo pans and rolers and the 15 rooms that I did with it dooesnt look any different than with the tube.

Hi there! Maybe I can help you. I am a painter with 25+ years experience. I need some information first: 1. What kind of siding are you painting - clapboard, shakes etc? 2. What kind of paint will you be using? Is it latex paint, latex stain, oil paint or oil stain?

General tips: a wide brush makes the work go faster because it holds more paint and covers more surface at a time. A 5" good quality all paints brush is a good choice. When done painting for the day wrap the brush tightly in alum foil and store in the refrigerator until the next day. Try not to paint in full sun - the paint will dry too quickly and make it harder to brush, and will leave brush/lap marks.
Post back with more specific info.

Phil,

I've tried everything, the best advice is "Jus getter done!" The gimmicks don't work.

The best way to paint is to let someone else do it then you dont have to. :)
