OT 98 Chevy Blazer...wierd stuff

Well, I went out this morning and went to move the power seat and it just would barely move, just like the battery was dead. So I put the key in and nothin", just like it was dead. Then the seat started to move like it should and the gauges all came on(fuel pump too, heard it prime up), then it all died again, then back on, and off, and on. Most of the guages(including the speedometer were jumpin" around like they were on crack during all of this). Finally, it settled down and I got it started(it still died a couple of times, and I had to pump the fuel some, and rev it to keep it runnin"). Any ides??

Oh, I guess some more info would help. It"s got a 115,000 miles, LS that"s loaded(power everything), 4x4, and of course it"s the 4.3 V-6.

The problem with our bad ignition switch had these symptoms: Every few weeks, the car wouldn't start, although it would crank fine and act like it wanted to start. If you gave it a snort of starting fluid, it would start right up. but you had to keep giving it starting fluid for it to keep running. If you left the car alone for about 15 minutes, it would start and run. It turns out this was caused by an antitheft device. The faulty ignition switch was causing the computer to think that someone was using the wrong key in the ignition. The anti-theft system kills the fuel pump for about ten minutes, then lets you try again.

By the way, pumping the accelerator pedal doesn't do anything on a fuel-injected engine. There's no accelerator pump to "pump".

If you can get it to a dealer or a local auto repair shop, they'll usually diagnose it for you for around $50.

I could be wrong, but that's what it sounds like to me.

Turns out, she had locked her keys in the car and used the spare to unlock it. Stuck the spare in the ignition switch and tried to use it to start he car. She never thought to use the original, and called us. That was the problem. Spare key had back chip.

Take keys to GM dealer and have them check them out to be sure they're good.
