The only complaint I've ever had about them is the automatic transmissions. They just have always had a bad reputation for a good reason, they're weak. Mine are Cummins, and at 25K to the dealer for a rebuild after losing 2-5 after reletively light duty. I know of a firm that has 8 gassers, and when my '01 went, I asked them about theirs, and as I recall 1/2 of theirs had the same problem. But then again, I know a guy that has a two wheel drive cummins dually, and after his went, he went after market, and beats it into the ground like running a dragstrip (with trailers), no problem. Ran into a guy a month or so ago while fueling mine on the interstate, and his was an '03 or '04 3rd generation Cummins, automatic, dually, 4x4, and he says 100K on it pulling trailers from NY to CA, no problems. As for paying $14K for yours, some will say too much. I say if is in good shape, go for it. Probably has a 10 year/100K drivetrain warranty still? My '01 still is covered, '96 has 200K and drive it daily. One tranny problem each, fixed, ok after, so far. Mark.
