Does anybody know anything about Long tractors. I found a 1984 1710? diesel with a loader for $4500. It looks like a Ford but, obviousl not. Seemed to be an odd ball but, a nice tractor any comments?

My tractor repair man claims they are built cheap. My neighbor, a medium size farmer, owns four Longs and would not hesitate to buy another.

I"ve had a 610 4 wheel drive with loader for more than 10 yrs. Never add oil and runs perfect. Little hard to get into 4th is only complaint. I use mostly for loader work. Unload 100"s of round and sq bales each yr. Also used for several yrs on a smaller big rd baler. Parts are higher--but have needed only a spring for hyd lever. Could use new front seals in planitarys and bushing in front pivit pin. 2500 hrs. Big advantage is cheaper to buy. I gave $5000 total for it and loader.

I'm pretty sure my neighbor had one. Was an ok tractor but parts were nearly impossible to find for it, and big money when they could be found. We live in central Iowa by the way.

The first tractor I bought when I finally quit renting tractors was a 1975-76 560 Long. It was an ok little tractor, not built to the quality I was used to but the price was right and it did most everything I asked of it. Only real problem was it had more engine than radiator. Had to gear down a lot to keep the temp down and parts were absurd in price. But it gave me over 50 hp for less than $2000.
