Cab for 4020

I agree with the fact that the cabs for these tractors are hot and noisy. I cover the noise end of things by using the disposable foam ear plugs(also helps to keep what's left of my brains from leaking out). The cab on our 4010 came with a cab cooler that had a bunch of parts missing, but the fan really moves a lot of air, which helps. The filters were missing the filter media, so I used the blue stuff from furnace filters. I can blow them out when they get plugged. I bale with this tractor and have to choose between heat or dust and I prefer the heat.

Right now I am hauling hay with it and would not want to face all day without the cab and the heater I installed. Current daytime temps are in the mid to upper teens and there is always some wind to keep it cool.

I have seen OEM cabs from other tractors installed on 4010/4020's. If painted they look OK and are much more comfortable, but involve a lot more work. I am considering doing this to try to get AC in the 4010.

They're loud and hot. VERY loud and hot. I'm talking T-shirts in December and skivvies in summer and DOUBLE(plugs and muffs) ear protection all the time. Guy I worked for in HS had a hiniker on a 4020 and a year-a-round on a 3020. I called them echo boxes, among other choice names. Rops and canopy is the way to go on the 10 and 20 series. Either that or a Soundgard cab on a 30 or 40 series.

Just be careful what you wish for is all I'm saying.

In about 1979 I had the local IH place install a turbo and a Year a Round on my 966 with heat and air. Whole bill came to just over $4K.

All I noticed in power was the darned noisy exhaust because they replaced the muffler with a straight pipe. Tractor didn't seem to pull a darned bit better than it ever did and it wanted to run hotter all the time.

And that cab! I'd been better off to just flush the funds down the toilet and saved myself the trucking bill into town. I absolutely hated that thing!

I"m yankin" one off right now off my latest buy "cause I just don"t like cabs. Trouble is that it might be the wrong color for you. It is a Heniker? Off of a 966 Black Stripe.

Right door has a bad right upper hinge and the right window is missing. I don"t know if they will swap between JD and IH or not.

I LOVE air conditioned cabs about mid-July....

And heat sure is nice when pushin' snow...

The only 2 tractors I use WITHOUT cabs have R.O.P.S. and canopies. Don't need a 100HP tanning bed. John
