Tractor Recomendations for Bushhogging and cleanup

What would be a good later model tractor for primarily heavy duty bushhog work. Had a Ford 4000 one time that worked pretty well. Would like something that is made for unleaded gas and is more of a utility type, compact but has some muscle. Willing to pay upwards to $10,000. Mostly going to cut 3rd year growth of trees on cutover timber land. Most of laps were cleaned up. Thanks for your suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am a great believer in updating my posts. Looked around here in NC and it is amazing how expensive tractors are for what you get especially with the popular models such as John Deer, Ford, Massy, and so on. You would think different with the demise of the Tobacco Program

With your suggestions, easy on off, get a diesel and so on, I got a tractor called a Mahandra. It is somehow affiliated with International and in fact uses an International design for their engines. Has 45 hp, a diesel, only 225 hours, front end loader and a 7 foot bush hog for $11,000 delivered. There are several dealerships within 50 miles. I have read that they are very heavy duty tractors. I have about 20 acres, and I have used my B-414
it has done everything I needed. It is a gas engine model. 3pt, power steering, dual stage clucth enabling live PTO, 8 speed transmission with 2 reverse speeds and diff lock. I use a 7ft buhler finising mower on it and a 7ft Lorenze snow blower. I am selling this one, if your interested contact me via email.

For being an old one, gas works fine for me, I have heard of people having problems with the older British diesels starting in cold weather glow plugs etc. I have never had to plug my in in the winter time and it starts everytime. I live in the northern part of Minnesota, so being able to start up right away is nice. I do keep it inside so that helps. I do have a new diesel now, and yes I do like the diesel better, for a new tractor. Just my 2 cents.

Youd be better with a diesel in my opinion, if you hit a bigger tree a diesel will come back easier.

Youd probably be ok with a 135 but would be pushing it with anything more than 6 footer if your cutting saplings. Havent tried it, yo might get more from it.

165 would be my choice. Multipower would be nice so you can knock it up on the areas that arent as hard work. Youd be ok without multipower though,

What's wrong with your previous choice. I think the post '65's are nicer with live PTO, but if you can find an early model with live should be an excellent choice. Don't think I'd buy without live or independent PTO.

The 3000's of the '65up years is an excellent choice also. Gas or diesel shouldn't matter as the Fords of that era were/are gas sippers.

They are so handy, stable, and easy to get around on. Probably wouldn't need power steering as the weight of the hog would keep the front end light enough to be easily steered.

On a mower, the Bush Hog brand and Rhino/Service both make heavy duty models specifically to stand up to the rigors of cutting saplings.

Would be sure and get the front chains or belting to keep cuttings from puncturing the tractor's rear tires.

You'll be near your $10k number with a good, painted,later model 4000 running $5 to 6 and a HD hog running $2.5 to 3.

OOPS. Forgot Fergie. Sorry, but still not as easy on/off as the Ford (have a MF 35 with Perk D).

Had a 464 IH. Didn't like it as you were boxed in and as a result visability wasn't that good. On Ford it's just so handy to get on and off.

Thanks to you all for your tips. I did find the ford 4000 easy to get on and off as Mark suggested. Mine only had a 4 speed though. I would find one with the 8 speed. I am not familiar with the other tractors that much but I am going to look at them. Thanks to the person who reccommended the right kind of bush hog. Also, thanks for the reccomendation of the desiel. Until then, I was leaning toward a gas.
