Mornin' All,

Okay, I gotta get this strategy figured out.

I think I'll move the 686 around to the back of the shop and then park the newest 966 addition in it's place. I'll just let on like it has been there all along.

I'm almost sure she will never notice the difference in size.

Yeah, that's what I'll do. :>)

The advice you need is that of a local radio talk show host here in MN. It"s called the 48 Hour Rule: If you can put the item in a place where she COULD notice it but probably WON"T, like the shed or something, and keep it there for 48 hours without her noticing, you"re entitled to make up whatever story you need to. "What, that tractor? It"s always been here! I"ve had it forever!"

That, of course, is followed by The Three Prices you Pay: The price you actually paid, the price you told her that you paid, and the price you pay when she finds out the first price!

That's what I do. I learned it from the wife. Whenever I noticed she had a new dress on I'd ask her where she got that. She'd tell me she had it for a long time, it was hanging in the closet. It works, no point in arguing about something that is history today.

Sometimes Its easier to get forgiveness then permission.

Started this weekend on letting the wife know that I need a different tractor. Pointing out that (I'm tring to do to much with one tractor),
(I need a tractor with fewer problems then I wouldn't always be working on it.) Then I hit her with the big one. (Maybe I should just buy one of those new John Deere's for 20,000) That way sticker shock of 1,800 isn't so bad. Much longer process. Wish me luck.

I tried your strategy this summer and it worked like a charm! Wanted to buy a F935 for $3600. Took Mrs. Dug to JD dealer and looked at new models in the $15000 to $20000 range. She agreed to the $3600 tractor, although she claims it belongs to her. Oh well, it keeps her off MY 2510.

would she buy any of the following:
1.It followed me home and we cannnot abandon it now.
2.the guys on YT mag gave it to me as a Christmas present and I cannot return a present.
3.It is her present from you.
4.It is the 686's Daddy and it has to stay around to raise and nurture it's son.
5.The 686 was lonely, needed a companion.
6. Tell her you seen it, did not want to ruin the surprise, you thought she had bought it for your Christmas present.

i will do this - just bring it to my barn and i will keep it a while (2-3 years). that way she will never realize you have it. when you put it in your barn you can trully say "that tractor, why i have had that tractor for several years"!!!!

My wife and I were driving home after looking at a Ford 661 and making a deal. I was girding my innards for all manner of abuse about the waste of money etc. when she up and says "That sure was a lot of tractor for the money" I almost drove in to a ditch. The point is you never know what they will say. That is how they keep us off balance.

I am helping you out Allan, there ain't no wife in the world gonna belive that the 966 is your 686, at 500 yards you can see the difference because of the new paint on the 686. Now if you get the 966 painted before you bring it home, that might fly then, but not the way it looks now! Good Luck! L.O.L.!
