Hey Guys,

Just got to wondering if anyone ever buys these tractors that have been set up to pull and probably have already had the guts yanked outta 'em.

I see a 1066 on ebay with an asking price of $14K. I wouldn't touch a 'puller' for any amount of money.

Whadda think?

Allan

It all depends on what your looking for. Many times if your just starting out pulling, your best bet is to by someone elses used tractor or pickup. I wouldn't bye it off e-bay. I would go to the pulls and watch them run. Many times they will sell off their current tractor and build a new one from scratch. Nothing wrong, just looking for a new challenge. Gives you a running tractor to start learning the game. Now if you were looking for another field tractor, I'd probably look for an unmodified one from a dealer or private sale.

Best buy I evert made on a tractor was an M I bought from an IHC dealer. It came from grain farming area and had been used as a planting tractor after the farmer had bought diesels. All repairs had been made at the dealer's shop. Poorest buy was a superC which was used in Missouri Ozarks to haul firewood. Still had original tires but few original bolts were left in. The previous owner/s? used any bolt to fill the hole. One bolt was stripped amd welded fast.

pulled pickups? in reply to Allan in NE, 12-30-2004 10:06:48
Beginning to think the same thing on used pickups. Unless I know the owner. Some of the loads they are hauling is way over. Yea, I bought a real nice clean Dakota with ball on bumper only...had to replace the rear end. Hunted up the guys farm, 2-horse trailer and a 16 foot flat bed parked beside the hay stack.

yer i agree

Would only buy one if i knew exactly what it had been pulling and for how long, and exactly what they had done to it to get her pulling.

Got to ask ureself - why are they selling it?

Is it knackered and there moving on to another? OR maybe theres a genuine reason

Personally id buy a standard tractor then tweak it myself.
