Can anyone out there give me an idea as to the value of a mod 70 JD, It has been 80% restored, and has an after market front end loader, wide front end, and a 3 point JD hitch, with a number plate, and mfg plate from JD ..that JD has no record of ever building, no one has ever seen one like it ...hope there are some old JD fans that can shed some light on what I might have. THANKS

Any more info on numbers, power steering, bypass cooling or not. What is the serial number? There are some riff raff that make fake plates that look origional with any number you want. Anyone purchasing a tractor rare or not should check with the cops and dealer if it's "hot". Funny how there are more 330 Deere's showing up than Mother Deere ever built. Checking through the parts book can often narrow a tractor down to a specific few months. Then the serial number can be checked if it's in that range. Instead of wrecking the plate scraping with a screwdriver or jackknife like a bunch of donkeys I've seen. Scrub it with toothpast or waterless handcleaer and soft brush for a while. Some of those numbers are hard to read and maybe sent the wrong info in for a trace.

The serial number is in the valid range for the 1955 production year. Power steering became optional in April 1954. Rowcrops of that era had a round front axle stuck out in front of the tractor looking like an after thought like the Oliver's did. The later square wide row crops put the front axle under the tractor like the standard but using a different design. Is that front a Deere or after market like a Swartz or something? I'll have to look in the parts CD another night when not so late. There will be some clues to see if it's a parts tractor built from the remains of other scrapped tractors. Or mostly origional?

The tractor is all origonal, it has been in the family sense new. everything is origional to the tractor. Have several local people wanting to buy it, and am looking for a ballpark value. The three point hitch is the mystery. It has 2 JD id plates, which are origional. Sent tracings, and photos to JD factory. JD said its one of theirs, but they have no record of it ever being built, a mystery to JD also. The 3 point is massive, compared to typical JD hitches, maybe a factory prototype, never mass produced.

Maybe a Hoxey Hitch or a Saginaw Hitch. Both still made to this day in Michigan. Could be a JD 800 or 801 hitch. Likely made 25 years before the person you asked was born. I'll have to look but I'm 99% certain that square front isn't factory. Try posting on the JD area of this site. There are people there who know way more than myself.

The square wide front was an option on the late model 70s. I don't know the serial number break and I'm not sure that it is really known, but it was available.

The parts manual does show a square wide front for a model 70 rowcrop chassis. Odd that there were no serial number breaks in the assemblys. However checking some info from a real pro J.R.Hobbs. Found that the square wide front rowcrop axle was introduced at serial number 7017500.November 1954 along with the new diesel engine option. 16,000 gasser row crops built. As for being a good serial number. Take a real good look with a magnifying glass and a strong light. And try the Two Cylinder Club again with real clear handwriting. Maybe someone somehwere was just having rough day and something got transposed?
