Hi...anybody know who I could contact to find out where and when my 1954 50 JD was made? The serial number of this little beauty is #5018355.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

It was built in Waterloo, Iowa. From my addition of the monthly build totals from Nov, 1953, I make your tractor to have been built in April, 1954. My source: The John Deere tractor production log contained in the Spring 1994 issue of TRACTOR DIGEST.

Nov 1953 125 built
Dec 1953 189 built 314 total 1954 models
Jan 1954 300 " 614 "
Feb 1954 669 " 1283 "
Mar 1954 645 " 1928 "
Apr 1964 750 " 2678 "

1954 production began @ serial # 16,041.
Your serial # 18,355
Your tractor was the 2314th 1954 50 built
The last Mar 1954 tractor was the 1928th built.
Your tractor, therefore, is a mid April tractor.

Jeff,

That's a sweet little 50. Spent many a day on one of those with the mower, cultivator and bean cutter.

Mid 1954 production year. Late enough to have the lub oil operated fuel shut off. The generator is the later high output model as well. And the thermostat which controls water flow instead of it moving the shutters. A couple of months too soon to have power steering as an option. Two Cylinder Club will run a trace, worth twice the price.

Jeff,

Here is a link to the Two-Cylinder serial # research.

Link

However, on a 1954 Model 50 you won't get much info other than build and ship dates.
