Worst problem with Omaha is that it's on the wrong side of the river. Second is the proximity ot BIG RED football, aka the Cornhuskers!

SWMBO grew up in Crescent, Iowa; I lived there for 14 years, and most of both our familes are in the area.

IF ya got time, AND you like zoos, go to the Henry Doorly Zoo. We go there very Christmas when we visit the extended families.

I am a firefigher in Omaha, but I live in Papillion which is just south a few miles. What convention are you going to? What do you want to know?

Les, you may be surprised to find Omaha quite hilly, and full of trees, whereas trees are kinda sparse in other parts of the state. There is the zoo, as mentioned, not as silly as it sounds, as the buildings there are heated. We also have the Strategic Air Command museum, a few miles west on Interstate 80, definitely worth a look at the old birds, also all inside. About 694 restaurants in town. Afraid most of the tractor venues are only on during warm weather, come back in July. Durham Western Heritage museum is the 1930s Art Deco Union Pacific station, has a lot of exhibits as well as a UP train parked there. Don't tell people though, we're trying to keep the tourist numbers down. John in Nebraska

My mother lives in Papillion so we get out there with some regularity. (We are in Pennsylvania getting walloped with snow as I type this) I second these suggestions, the zoo is the in the top 2-3 in the country (my daughters are real zoo fanatics so we have a basis of comparison), and the Western Heritage museum is real good. The train is my favorite. I do like the SAC museum best though. Guess I just like the mechanical things best.

The old down town area can be kind of interesting if you are into shops, etc. Also sometimes have exhibits on the Con-Agra headquarters grounds. The grounds themselves are like a big park.

Have fun whatever you do.

I live 250 miles from Denver, 250 miles from Casper, Wyoming and 250 miles from Bowman, North Dakota. I live in Nebraska.

Allen, it sounds like you're right in the middle of a lot of excitement!
Can't remember the exact title of the convention. It has to do with my job, which is Utility Forester/Arborist. Won't be driving, Sloroll. Flying from Manchester, NH. I'm sure there's no direct flight. Probly have to change in Detroit or Chicago or sommers likathat.

Allen, Don't you mean the famous jackalope

The Jackalope (Lepus-temperamentalus) is one of the rarest animals in the world. A cross between a now extinct pygmy-deer and a species of killer-rabbit, they are extremely shy unless approached. None have ever been captured alive and this rare photo (often criticized as fake) shows a mighty buck about to strike.

Known by the ancients as "deerbunnies", it wasn't until the early 1960's that the modern more fearsome name of "jackalope" was adopted
