Are your tires loaded, that's some cheap traction.

I dont know much about pulling but in drag racing most guys have the horse power and not the traction. So what do they do?They seek to make more horsepower losing even more traction.Good traction and a hard launch off the line works far better than power galore.{Which has nothing to do with what you guys are talking about]But sorta relates.

Amen. A drag race is won or lost by the 0-30 mph times.

Unless you pull only against other JD, you are starting with quite a handicap. As already said, if you can spin tires in first gear, traction is what you need. When you can hook up to the track then you can go into the engine, but that will cost some. Higher octane gas won"t help, in fact will hurt unless you do engine work.

to be honest, you can"t
$$$=hp
with that said:
you can rebuild the carb, run high octane fuel(100 blue gas) a hot coil is needed for that.
if its a all fuel you can put the compression rings in the top of the cylinders (make sure they don"t hit the pistons/top of head.
tune it the best you can & hope everyone else has a bad hook.
you must look at the weight class that tractor will (?5500lb) be in and what it will be pulling against. start saving money thats what it"s about on the track.
sorry

Fuel octane higher than what is required actually cut power a little as it's harder and slower to ignite than what is required. As long as she has enough power to spin out in 1st gear. There are three other primary factors in winning. Traction, traction and traction. Max height drawbar, max legal weight and proper fore/aft balance is the rest.
