Hi Dan,

Although color is a indication of different anti-freeze this is no longer a "good" way of telling what anit-freeze will mix with another anti-freeze.

Example: Zerox G-0-5 a 100k coolant

In a 2002+ Ford PSD it's gold color

In a JDeere it's green

In a Cummins it's gold

And theres a red but I can't remember what uses it.

But my point, there all the same anti-freeze with a different color dye but the chemicals are the same. You can mix any of these with each other without any problems.

Then can you use red Dex-Cool with the red G-0-5? Nope, two different chemicals.

Can you mix the JD green long life coolant with standard green coolant? Nope two different chemicals.

The red stuff is called Dex Cool....I think...GM is anyway....go to google and do a search...page down and see what people have to say about it. If they'd give me a life time supply I'd pass....after you read about all the engine troubles people have had with it, I just can't believe its still on the market.

I have used the extended life anti-freeze in both the regular and diesel version for almost 10 years now, with no problems. Some of the problems you hear about was caused by the stop leak put in new vehicles by GM.

I guess my question relates to the red stuff on the shelf,is there harm in adding it to the existing green antifreeze already in the rad.Dan

Geez! Is he promoting auto parts now? Some people will do anything to make a buck.

Frankly, I can't think of a worse pitchman for auto maintenance products, but name recognition is important, I guess.

I hope everyone realizes that the premixed anti-freeze should cost half the price of the full strength to offer equivalent value. I premix my own at home.

A local store had some antifreeze extender on a close out. Bought it all. This was like a concentrate. I figure regular not premix is probably still 50+% water. So if they quit carry all this water all over the US how much would it drop the price of antifreeze. Water at the house is cheap

If you do not have a source of distilled or demineralized water. Go with a quality pre-mix. That tap water may look pure but it's always saturated with something. The minerals in the water are bad enough but to make things worse they find some metal in the cooling system to react with and make even a bigger mess.

Well,yes and no.you can mix them,but youll loose or thin out the extended life capabilies of the extended life antifreezes by adding regualr antifreeze to it.

Was at the Chevy place the other day getting my Durmax serviced saw another one pulled in beside it getting a flush. I asked the tech what was wrong. He said that they mixed anti-freeze and that was a no,no!

NO THEY ARE NOT MIXABLE! sorry for yelling but i was hoping to stop ya in time ;) the red is mixed with distilled water only making it less corrosive and good for about 5 years vs. the green which is only good for about 2-3 years and is mixed with tap water and is much more corrosive. there are also different types of "red" antifreeze. ford orange amd gm dexcool are compatable, mopar orange is all by it's self. ford also has a gold which is all by it's self.

I bought some Prestone Quick-Fill (50-50 premix) and the jug claims it is compatible with 2001-newer Chrysler and 2003-newer Ford and GM dexcool so who's story are you supposed to buy

well my stance on that is alittle bias since i'm a parts man for a dodge/ford dealership, but i do believe in aftermarket parts/products. i think the auto makers have gone overboard with all the different lubes just so they can tie up the market for a short period till the aftermarket world catches up. i have no experiance with that 50/50 fill all tanks antifreeze yet but i do hope it works so life can be simple again...atleast with antifreeze!
