I am relatively inexperienced with tractors, but do own a JD 1050 for bush-hogging / grading. This weekend the hydraulic lift attached to the three-point hitch locked in the "up" position. At first I thought I probably locked it into position somehow - maybe there is a safety lock or something - but I could not find a way to unlock the lift. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? As I said, I'm am inexperienced and it's probably something obvious....

Not sure on your JD but other tractors have a safety interlock that won't let the hydraulics work if there isn't enough pressure to over come the interlock. Causes could be low oil level, plugged filters, or weak pump. Start with the oil first.

If I remember correctly, there is a metal knob just under the seat which controls the rate of drop for the 3 pt hitch. If you somehow turn that closed while riding, it would leave the 3 pt hitch in the up position

Were you working it at the time - worked 1 minute ago, didn't work now.

Or was it setting - worked yesterday, didn't work today when I started it.

Did something tug the 3pt upwards right before this problem?
