Gas or diesel? On gas and diesel you bring in 12v and probably use that terminal for a junction to take 12v off to the light switch. That is probably term 1 and would be a dual terminal. The other dual terminal could be something to run the gas ignition and maybe the generator field excitation on both. That is probably term 2. There would be no spring pressure on the key when going from OFF to this position. this would be considered ON. The next terminal (gas) is probably the start terminal and only goes to the starter solenoid coil (3rd term) and only connects to term 1 when you have twisting pressure on the key to energize the starter via it's solenoid.
----- ----- -- On diesel, you would have an intermediate position (3rd term) between the first two and the start (4th term) which could be the "thermostart" position which is used as a cold starting aid. This requires twisting pressure to hold also. Don't have a wiring diag for the 3000 or would be more specific. HTH Mark
