I read with intrest your post about busg hog blades earlier and when I got a chance to come back and read up some more on it I was surprised at all the fuss that some of the guys kicked up. I was sent with a snapper mower blade one time to a guy for him to sharpen. I thought man what a waste this thing is shot. I had the priviledge of watching a real blacksmith at work as he cut out the end section and welded new steel in place and hammered an edge on it that I would challenge any body to do as good a job with a grinder. Yes as some argue you can buy new blades cheaper but I question do you have as good a product. It is my opinion that for the money bush hog blades should last a lot longer than they do. I am afraid we the many are at the mercy of too few a people because we have for so long taken the easy way out instead of keeping the practice of make do and keep going with what we have. When I grew up they were a couple of guys around here that could make or repair a part about as quick as we could drive to the dealer to get it. Especialy if we had to order it and wait a day or two. I priced a little part a few years ago that was around thirty dollars. One of the welders on the jobsite I was working at the time made me one out of scrap stainless on lunch break asked for a couple of bales of straw for payment. Thanks again for the post and I look foward to hearing more from you later.

Sid, sir, thank you for your kind words. 'fraid we've come to be a throw away world. Onething I didn't have time for and don't now is workhardin. You see. . . steel goes thru a transformation when it's put to work, example, coil springs under railroad cars, and the cuttin' edges on bulldozer and grader blades. A transformation occurs as steel is worked, or work hardened and it comes better for certain applications. A chisel or punch made from used coil springs will be better than one made from new stell of the same type.

Can you imagine the Engr Types, the proferssor, the doctorate, tellin' Benjamin Franklin it won't work. Then it did. The next day they are electrical Engrs. Writing long disertations.

How about the boys, when Mr. Wright cranked up his air mobile. They'd already told him it wouldn't fly, they were sittin' in the sand buildin' castles when he went over the top of them. But. . they were there, so the next day. . yeah you guessed it. They're AeroEngrs writin' long disertations.

Rave on Engr Types.
