The primary for school board was held today. Six candidates were running, the top two would proceed to the general election. I came in third, go figure!

Your to late my wife has been a teacher for the last 15 years and every year it gets worse, less money to work with the new crop of crack babies which drain school districts funds fast bacause of there special needs. The mexicans farm workers that help harvest produce here in ILL thru the summer then leave about oct,but they still have to pay to put these kids thru school for 3 months which blows about 2/3s of the budget right there . them trying to keep kids in line one of the BD kids today said he was going to blow up the school friday and they just look the other way here. So you really don't know how lucky you are bacause sports and bimbo cheerleaders seem to be the main course here to maintain not the 3Rs but it's really fun to see how dumbifed we have made this crop of present high school seniors, hand one $2.00 and your tab is a $1.98 and they can't figure in there head what the change is. So the damage has spread to far to fix in our life times.

I'm usually at the JD board, visited here cause its still winter...Leland, you got that right. I love how you're checking out and the young creature with ear, nose and lip hardware hands you some coins and says "and your change is..." which is what the read-out says on the computer/cash register. Remember in about the fourth grade how we had a cookie sale just so we could learn how to make change? I swear we are raising a generation of idiots!

If you are worth your salt then you will try again. It takes time for people to know who you are, recognize your name, associate it with their own values and most of all remember it when they are voting. People tend to vote the names that they can recognize and remember and that is why incumbents tend to win again and again. Keep trying, make sure people know who you are and what your intentions are and you will get the position.

Vern,

You are exactly right! Of the two that won, both have been in the community many years and name recognition was a big factor, one was the incumbent. Both are good people, thus we will have good representation on the board. And, yes, I will run again. The way I see it, I now have four years to run my next campaign!

Gotta love politics,

Dug

Dug
Would there be any other political jobs you could run for in the mean time that you would be interested in? Every county/city needs good people in various offices that aren't there for the money/status.

Dug, I"m sure a lot of people are glad you ran for schoolboard, and are hoping you run again. You now know that you have time to get your message out, and if youb run on worthwhile core values, you may be pleasantly surprised on how much traction a renewed campaign may take hold. Our schools need visionaries, and people like yourself who are committed to our kids and their future. By all means, run again.

dug..nothing wrong coming in third. it could have been worse. if any of the other people that won pick up on a thought or idea that you had is worth it.if not try again. nothing ventured nothing gained.

Hey Dug, at least you cared and tried. Come north, we could use a couple guys like you on our school board.
Now, go get them next year!
