I'm looking at an IHC 100 Hydro w/10k hrs. Can anybody say good bad or otherwise about one? I had one twenty years ago and thought that it was alright, but it only had 2k hrs on it. What should I look for at 10k hrs? Another possibilty is an Allis 7060 or 7030, but I know less about these two individual tractors, other than they both have brown bellies as opposed to black. I'd be using said tractor for tillage if I don't go no-till. I'm on the fence as to what I want for a drill, We've only had conventional drills, but I'm curious about a no-till drill if I strike out on my own.

Thank-You very much,

Jeff

Jeff, You and I are two of the very few with firsthand IH Hydro experience. I would not hesitate to use a good condition hydro tractor for tillage. My dad bought a 1026 IH hydro new(1970 or 71) and that was our biggest tractor. We pulled an 11 shank mtd chisel plow and for finishing,a 14ft disc with drag harrow behind. The 1026 was not a fuel hog,we never had to replace a clutch or TA. The hydro allows you to use exactly the engine rpm or field speed you want for maximum efficency. In 1980 I bought an 1155 Massey for heavier work, and the 1026 did the planting, haying and chopping as well as hooking on to the disc once in a while. I would not hesitate to buy another hydro if I could verify its condition and repair history. Then keep your trans oil full, filters clean, oil cooler clean, and watch your overheat light. Good luck, Joe

Hydro's make great utility or loader tractors. Can't be beat for trenching, etc type work.

You will go broke trying to keep fuel in it for tillage work. As well as higher repair bills than a good gear tractor.

I can tell you that the Allis has a small and cramped cab and is a pain to get in and out of. We had a black belly (newer) 7045. Hated it. I like the idea of a full powershift but the one we had tore up the tranny twice. Expensive! Don't push that "clutch" all the way down cause it engages some sort of brake and really jerks stuff around. It ran good but didn't want to start at all on cool to cold mornings. I'd look at something else and would think the hydro would be great for haying but tillage would probably be a terrible thing to use it for. Just my thoughts.

i have only seen two so here goes. first off i would agree with the guys about taking alot of power and not wanting tillage work for it. the first one was with a loader worked well for taht. the second was the local grain elevator, they put an auger on it for loading out semis and with the hydro they could keep constant pressure on the feed without somone sitting htere riding the clutch. i cannot tell you how many hours were on it or what but they had it 5 or 6 years and they said it needed hydro work and it was expensive enough to repair that they did the all american thing took it to an auction and bought a loader. i personally ahve never priced parts or tore into one of that size (lawn and garden yes) but i imagine parts could get fairly spendy.

Jeff,

One of the nicest 966s I ever laid eyes on was a 100 Hydro I saw just a few weeks ago and I really, really like 'em.

But, at 10K hours you might be peekin' at an engine in the not too distant future.

Gotta agree with the other boys too; I don't think you want that hydro pullin' in the field.

Allan

You are wanting a HYDRO tractor, for TILLAGE? Why? Supposedly a Hydro is a great pto tractor but LOUSY for tillage, especially due to the hp losses incurred with a hydro tranny.

hydor's dont work well when worked hard.. heat is its enemy.

the AC's are higher horse power if your doing any tillage and even drilling beans. ( JD drills do like to be behinde tractors with closed center Hydrallics so that is a consideration)
