Mornin',

Having Management problems this morning.

Found the sweetest little irrigated farm at exactly the right price and it is all tillable.

Wife is from the South and seems to think ya need pasture ground to raise cows.

Allan, Since you said this place is an Irrigated Farn I will jump out and assume dthere are some Center Piviots on it. Well!! corners are not usually watered. There is your permanent pasture right there!. Corn and milo stalks = standing hay, Wheat pasture = actively growing nutrinents. Only set out sume supplement tubs and you have a ready made home for moma cows or, or, Ho<$es.

Allan, Looks Good to me. The others seem to think that one needs terraces to farm, Terraces =Point rows. I ! can live the rest of my life and NEVER have to deal with a point row. Like the Cotton & Corn farmers down here the lay awake at nites and dream up ways to have point row. lol!
I love the fact when you start figureing the amt of a crop on a particular place. Just wheel it off L x W gives you acres. Easy litte checks are avaiable too. ie, 5 x 40in rows x 1/2 mi long = 1 acre.
Anyway... Allan, Sick-um the place looks D@m good to me How is the water there Droping, How deep, On elec,nateral gas, DSL. Just courious.

Hey buddy, where in the world would you put the terraces on this place? How could you practice contour farming? Don't look too good to me. Heck, I thought it had a fairly good fall to it.

Here is the home place that is rented out. Now, this one is "somewhat" flat, but still has a nice drop.

But, when under gravity irrigation, it took two 2" tubes to push this run in 12 hours. :>)

First thing wrong with this picture Allan is the meters. One on the pole and another on the discharge pipe. Looks like a money pit to me. Stick with your internet sales, play farmer up there on the hill with your yard and garden. Your too dam old to go in debt for something that will never make you a dime. Cows can still make a man a little money but only on rented land. Let the doctors and lawyers pay the taxes.

You ever "Shoot the Flume?" We ust to (in WY) ride the irrigation water under the bridges and jump it into the pond on the far side. Had to really keep ones head down.

Ya Rusty, and they take less pasture too. Plus you get to sell something once a year and not just keep their get till they get old and die. One thing though, Don't name your food. Cows all over this place, and every one of them have a name. Couldn't get rid of them if I wanted to. Harley

Don't mean to side with the female, but being from back east, don't really understand how ya raise cows without some pasture. I guess you could keep them in free stall and feed accordingly? If it's a big enough free stall I don't see how it is any different than a pasture....cows are dumb, they won't know the difference.

Now if ya wanna talk inhumane...get her thinkin you are interested in veal farming. Maybe then she'll back off the pasture idear.

Cows have long memories

You will need pasture unless you have a good order buyer. You could buy bred cows and calve them out in the cornstalks and then sell the whole bunch in the spring. Might have to buy them some hay and protien block and salt.

Cows are dumb yet smart. Too stupid to go through the 12' gate when you want them too but so smart they can find a gate open only 1' and soon the whole herd is racing down the road. Mostly stupid though.
