Yazoo transaxle HELP!

Does anyone have the name or location of a shop that can rebuild a Yazoo YR-60 transaxle? My clutches are worn out, and i would just like to have the unit gone through.

I just saw on ebay where a guy in austarlia has the clutch disks (30 Set) for starting bid of 180.00 i think

Brad, You didn't say how long you have owned or operated the mower, but we have had ours for 24 years and only adjusted the clutches. That may be all it needs....Then again as you say , may need attention beyond an adjustment. I have broken 3 axles, one time I had to take it apart to get the grindings out of the case, the axle is more brittle and will shatter. The job was a little tricky to me but it works like new, but if you have a manual, please follow it.You should be able to find the parts, there are dealers out there although not as common as they once were...another doug

I have had it for about five years (second onwer, first one did NOTHING for the first 20 years or so.) and never adjusted the clutches. I did rebuild the Wisconsin with all new parts though. The machine has started slipping. I have a manual, and have attempted to adjust the clutch, with not much luck. The manual also states that the oil in the transaxel (40wt. non detergent) should be filled to half way cover the clutch shaft, i have never had that much oil in the machine. is this correct? I will keep trying to adjust, as other than that it seems to work fine. Any Advice would be apprecieated.

My neighbor gave me a YR60. The motor has been rebuilt, but there is a clip that has broken in the trans axle. Is there anyone out there who knows where I can get parts or service for this mower?

You want some oil on the clutch pack, and if it's like ours , oil wants to leak out everywhere... yes just so it runs in some oil, as it slops it around when running, I guess thats why they say half way on the shaft. By now you are aware of the clutch spring "keeper" or whatever some call it, but I find that a rag packed down in there helps a clumsy guy if it falls down into the tranny, been there...We were blowning seals till we found that a breather wasn't screwed into the side hole on the tranny case,it had a plug!!! (was owned by a doctor before us) and as it warmed up the pressure built up and it would blow axle seals, ugh. We run #30 in ours...non detergent. Make sure that you are adjusting the clutch that you want adjusted( move the shifter as you look at the clutch and see if it's clamping up tight)...foward or reverse clutch, as there is one for each. Take the "keeper" off ( spring clip) hold onto one of the clutch teeth and turn it a few clicks, put it back on and test it...I don't know if running the shaft half way in oil will change anything, as it could have a washing away effect of loose particles of clutch material, but the clutch pack will snap tight when the shifter is moved to it's full travel....I guess you can play around with it. I do have the name of a dealer for parts in Ohio, and they ship quick, but I need to look that up sometime, hope this helps, ask more questions till you're satisfied...another doug

Doug,

Thanks for the info and parts number. i will call and order new disks. I adjusted and readjusted,and even when it snaps locked as you discuss, it still slips greatly. I apparently ran it about 3 quarts low on oil over the past several summers, so i guess i wore the clutches out. thanks for all the advice.

just got a price on the clutches. I thought the 800 i spent rebuilding the Wisconsin was alot, 1170.00 to get all the disks. I think that might be over my limit for the old cutter!!!!!

I spent quite a bit of time last summer researching Pullmore clutches and sources of parts. Your best bet for a decent price on the clutch plates would be to contact North American Clutch and Driveline. I spoke with a gentleman there named Mike Larson. If I remember correctly you can do a lot better than the price you mentioned. If there are enough parties interested in a group buy, you might even get a volume discount.

Overhauling the gearbox is no big deal. I had to overhaul mine due to the forward drive gear fingers being sheared off. Last owner liked to bush hog with the mower. Anyway, I think it took about 3 hours to get the box back together. If you have questions let me know. Good Luck.
