Yes,I've heard and read the latest postings on moble home axles and tires.I would love to own a factory built goose neck trailer but wages say I can't as of yet.Back to the subject at hand, brakes.I am in need of replacing the brakes on an axle I have. These have a four bolt backing plate pattern and the drums are 12 inch.I would like to know what type of brakes are on trailer house axles.I know they are electric!! I've ask moble home dealers as where to get parts but all they say,"I don't know".Somebody has to know what kind they us and where to get a set.

A comment and suggestion.... I just put new shoes on one of my trailers. It was locally built so I called the place to price the four brake shoes. Wanted $70 and change for four shoes! Mine is hydraulic actuated from the hitch point, but a shoe is a shoe. It has a 12 inch drum and two inch wide shoes. Here"s what I did, went to my local Napa dealer and had them open up thier brake shoe book (I"m sure other dealers have the same\similar books). Had pages of pictures with sizes to look thru. I found mine among them and ordered them. $22 and change for all four. Had them the next day. Fit perfect! Doing a backwards look-up from the shoe part number, they are the same as the rear shoes on an older (69-72) Chevy 3/4 ton truck. Might be worth looking into for your application. Couldn"t hurt. Ron

The parts are easy to get, you just have to identify them. There are a few different manufacturors used, but the designs are similar. If you take one apart, and measure the drum diameter and the shoe width, then go to a truck shop or a NAPA store. NAPA has a pictorial brake parts book where you can match the parts up no problem.

I would plan on using complete new backing plate assemblies on your axle. You can get them with everything already installed and just bolt them on. Try a truck spring shop or trailer dealer. The original brakes are not easy to get parts for as they are very cheaply made to last only the one trip to it"s new home. I"m talking about mobile homes not rv trailers. HTH;>)

The axles are reused many times. When a new mobile home is placed, the setup crew removes the axles and they are used on another new mobile home.

I have used them on many self built trailers and they work great for me. I prefer the hydraulic activated brake box over the pendelum style. But have not used them with any of the newer antiloc vehicles, might take something completely different. My axles came with new brakes, bought them from a trailer axle company in Forsyth Ga. I belive Norhtern tool and Hydraulics has many choices and styles available from electric to surge hydraulic type. They also have a spindle kit to convert to standars auto type wheels and tires. Good luck, David.

try a brake supply outfit they do all from trucks to trailers readily available in my area unless it is very old. mobile home outfits only move homes and sometimes scrap the axels as per state law.

Why are they called mobile homes when all they do is sit on concrete blocks?

How are a twister and a southern divorce similar? In both cases, some ol' boy is about to lose his trailer.

So, a fellow from Washington wants to tell Southern red-neck jokes..... .; we're the last group it's politically correct to pick on; great joke.

Figured it was OK, because I heard it from Jeff Foxworthy. Besides, if you're gonna talk about "ol' boys" and twisters, the south is about the only place you have both :o)

A good auto parts store should be able to get/have them.

Look for Redneck Trailer Supply, on line or in most every trailer sales office.

Go talk to someone who sells and services trailers, (not mobile home). I would think that somebody could match them up.
