1967 Farmall 706

I have a 1967 Farmall 706 diesel. I was round baling today with it. Half way through the day I seem to have lost hydraulic pressure to the values at the back of the tractor. When the tractor is a idle it will not even open the round baler. If you rev the engine up to about half throttle it opens very slow. I check the fluid it was full. I tried it on another implement and got the same results. I have never had this happen before. Any advice on how to fix it would be appreciated.

Since it was working good then quit all of a sudden I would think the pump would not be at fault as they go bad slowlly. Check that oring that Allan mentioned. Also there is a pressure releif valve under the seat that can stick open resulting in low or no pressure. One more thing did your three point control laver get pushed all the way ahead? By this I mean fully lowwered plus one inch on the quadrant. This will dump the hydraulic pressure to.

Thank you for the advice. I was not aware of the three point control lever get pushed all the way ahead would cause this condition. That was the problem.

TJ,

There is a whole laundry list of things you're "supposed" to check when this happens.

I don't mess around with all that malarkey, 'cause 9 times out of 10 it is that hitch pump rearward/back under the left step anyway. Since it "tries" to lift with high rpm, it just plain sounds like it's loosing pressure.

They run a steel gear in an aluminum housing and they just flat wear out over time.

While your changing the fluid and the filter, yank that pump cover paying particular attention to that o-ring on the cover. That's another trouble item; they sometimes blow out.

If the o-ring/gasket is okay, I'd just put a pump in 'er first and see what happens. Bet it fixes it.

For what it's worth, when the filter plugs on these things, the first thing you notice is a "screamin' sound" or no function when using the power steering
