I have a 1961 AC D-17, gas powered. What type/weight/synthetic(or not) oil should I use? Thanks

Don-WI is right, you'll get as many opinions as there are people! My opinion is to use the lastest API service classification available in 10W40 or 10W30. If you live in a more temperate climate than Western Montana, 15W40 is fine; but around here it's a bit more difficult to start with in the winter because of the increased cold temperature viscosity. whatever you do, change the oil and filter per the manufacturer's recommendation.

Now you gone and done it, asked about oil. Everyone has their own opinions on what oil to use, myself included. I use 15w-40 in a 35 gallon drum for our Massey 165 gas and 285 Deisel, and our Oliver 1600 gas and 1855 Deisel. Buy the oil from Our Massey dealer. We used to do it in 5-gallon pails, but then we got to thinking about all the pails we have laying around and the extra quart left in the bottom that usually went to waist. Any good 15w-40 will work.

And hey, It's your money, spend as you like

I would just buy shell rotella 15-40W and dump it in tractor ,as far as for synthetic if you have any minor oil leaks they will become major fast this stuff will clean all crud from motor and it may leak like a lawn sprinkler.
