Stay away from McAffee. I put it on my computer several years ago. As soon as I re-booted it, it totally crashed. All I could do was an F-10... total restore, back like the day I bought it. I lost everything that I had stored.

Thanks to all, free sounds good in reply to Tx Jim, 04-17-2005 03:34:04
Maybe Norton is the cause of my computer traveling like a tractor in creeper gear.Fracturing and getting rid of cookies will not speed it up.Thanks again,Jim

If you are running slow, I would download the following programs, ad-aware by lavasoft and spybot. Both are free. Make sure you update them before running them the first time. I think you will be very surprised how spy ware is on your computer.

Jim, I had serious virus problems which neither Norton nor McAfee cured. The last one, Norton 2005 let in (although it was running at full strength) PLUS couldnt cure it once infected.

I believe products like Norton and McAfee are the mass market Yuppie products so I looked for something better geared more towards the Professional. Now I use Computer Associates (CA) E Trust Anti Virus, Spyware, and Firewall and NO PROBLEMS SINCE PERIOD.

Im not gonna trust Norton nor McAfee ever agian cuz they let the virus in and couldnt cure it while CA E Trust could.

Hi Jim,

Okay, I'll be the odd man out on this one.

Norton, MaCafee and the America Online discs that come free in the mail all work great for coasters under your coffee cup.

I wouldn't have any of 'em because they are power hogs.

My view,

Allan

I use Norton because it works, you just can't be too careful these days. If it isn't broke, don't fix it!

I can't imagine that Norton or McAfee is better than AVG by grisoft, and AVG is a free download for home computer users.

Updates can be automatic or manually downloaded. Depending upon what is circulating the Net, downloads can be once every two weeks for so to currently nearly every day.

It is my understanding that AVG is/was designed to protect the computer networks of businesses. What better way to stop the inflow of virus infected emails than to prevent them by allowing home uses nearly the same a anti-virus programming for free.
Donations are accepted.

AVG was recommended to me by several techs that concurred it was the best. It has not failed me in the last several years of use.

While I am bestowing acolades may I also recommend "Zone Alarm" firewall protection, "Adaware" spyware protection, and "Spybot" spyware protection. Again all free downloads, donations accepted if you wish.

Usually the addage "you get what you pay for" is correct, however free can't be beaten for the aforementioned programs in my opinion.

Go with the free one from Grisoft works great.
Also Zone Alarm free firewall. Check with www.Komando.com she knows more about
computers than we do, and she recommends Grisoft.

I'd renew, Me too, this computer has been online for over 2 years and have not had a problem. The norton updates automaticly and does a good job of deleting contaminated emails.

I have been using AVG for over 2 years. All my freinds use it also. It has caught some viruses. I keep it updated daily. No problems here.

I vote for AVG. It has never let a virus through as opposed to Norton that seems to work like a sieve. Why pay money for something that doesn't work when you can get one free that does. Now if I could just find a keyboard that the letters aren't fuzzy on I would have it made'/,.
