Trying to be around the $4500-5000. Any suggestions? Be hauling a JD 3010 a G and some other two bangers. Any prefs on ramps? Thanks. Be using a one ton truck to tow it..won't go into brands thats always starts a war.

I bought a gatormade trailer last year. it has 2 7000 pound axles. It has been a good trailer so far. I added a 3rd ramp for loading narrow front end tractors. the one thing i don't like about it is the ramps don't lay down on the trailer, they stand straight up with a chain holding them.

Matt, I too like Joe(TX) have never heard of a Gatormade! Here in Texas there are a few names in the trailer Biz that you never have to worry about Quality! ....Gooseneck brand @ Bryan/CollegeStation Texas, Magnum Custom Trailers @ Austin Texas, Big- Tex I don't remember ther Factory home. Kaylen @ Gatesville Texas. One can not go wrong with any of these. And there are others too.
As far a a new 20 ft dove tail, Go ahead and put 10,000 or or 12,000 lb axles under it. You will not be undershod when you need to carry more tractors or or cargo. A 20ft dove tail make you a 25 ft trailer when hauling pipe, hay, you name it. It may be time for a road trip to Texas to get a trailer!! Good Luck.
Later,
John A.

Downside to heavy axles...? A pair of 10,000 axles, and the GVW rating of the truck would far exceed the 26,001 lb rating that would require CDL/log book/med. card/ect. That is determined by the truck/trailers RATING, and not how it's tagged. 14,000 GVW trailer and a 1 ton truck would rate UNDER 26,000, avoiding the need for CDL, when just hauling "non-commercial".

Matt, for a grand, it'd be worth your time to drive down to Louisville, Kentucky. There's a couple dealers here that sell just what you're looking for at priced UNDER $4000.

I bought a "Ridgeline" 14,000, 20'+5', 2 fold-down ramps, pop-up dovetail, Michelin radials, brakes on both axles, and L.E.D. lights for $3675. (My understanding is they've gone up some....$3995)

The pop-up dovetail is handy for hay hauling, but if you don't need it, just don't USE it.

Fifth wheel hitches don't need saftey chains, but they likewise, their GVW rating isn't as high as MOST ball-type hitches. A ball-type would be more compatible with someone elses truck, should you want to hook onto it with another. (That way it's easier for someone to steal your trailer....)

On the tires.... Make sure that the tires are rated high enough to carry the trailers weight capacity. "E range" tires miss by almost 2,000 lbs. of being able to carry a 14,000 wieght. (And that's what comes on MOST 14,000 lb. GVW trailers)

Hi Matt...You might want to do some research but, one thing you need to consider is tires. When I bought my gooseneck I had Goodyear radials installed. They don't heat up on the interstate, hauls heavy loads and don't sang to ya. Good luck.

We just ordered an H&H gooseneck 20 + 5 trailer that is made in Clarinda, Ia. Got a 14,000 lb trailer with the convertible beavertail, three ramps. It comes with mud flaps, led lights and a spare wheel (no tire) with a chain box up front. The wedsite is www.hhtrailers.com if you are interested. The price is in your range.

I'd check out 5th wheel before buying a goose neck, the 5th wheels are better and safer

Pretty broad statement. I don't see it. One can easily install a 30,000 lb ball hitch in the bed to pull a 14,000 lb gooseneck. Why is that not safe or good?

Think of it this way D.O.T. says a goose neck has to have safty chains and if its a goose neck camper a person can not ride in the trailor. But if its a 5th wheel D.O.T. says no safty chains are needed and if a person want to ride in a 5th wheel camper they can. So you figure it out how a 5th wheel is safe. As per D.O.T. no 5th wheel has ever broke away but there has been a lot of goose necks that have.

may be true but look at this way..you have to remove that fifth wheel to do anything else with bed but with gooseneck you can get flip ball and eveything is out of the way...each one has its place have nice day may god bless

Try going to hhtrailers.com they make a really well built trailer. Might be a little more expensive, but you get what you pay for. Look into how all these trailers are made and you'll see what I mean. You might also try freetrailerads.com

I don't have any advice, but I'm interested in the same thing. I've got a receiver hitch and a 8000 lb. trailer. I use is for farm tractors and a few small crawlers I have. I've been paying to get my bigger stuff hauled. Just recently I called the guy I usually use that had a big International straight truck with a tilt-bed. I wanted to hire him to bring my relatively small backhoe up to some land I have in the Adirondacks for the summer. It weighs around 11,000 lbs. He told me he got rid of his big truck and now does his hauling with a F350 and a gooseneck trailer. So, it got me thinking. I've got a F250 Ford, 8600 lbs. GVRW with 6.9 diesel. So, instead of paying $350 every time I need to haul the hoe, maybe I'm better off getting a gooseneck trailer myself? I've got three other trucks with Chevy 6.2 diesels, which I love - got almost 500,000 miles on one of them - but they are too underpowered to pull that kind of weight up mountain roads. I'm justing wondering how safe I'm going to be (or feel) pulling a load over 10,000 lbs. I've got an Allis Chalmers HD4 dozer, a Deere 1010 crawler/loader, and an Allis Chalmers HD6 I'd like to move once in awhile also. I suspect my other two hoes are to way to heavy - my Pettibone Mulithoe weighs 16,000 lbs. and my Case 580CK ??

check your GCWR on the F-250. My 2001 is only rated for a 10,000 lb bumper pull and I think it is 13,000 for a 5th wheel.

If your tractors have wide fronts, you might want to consider going an extra 4 feet so you can fit 2 tractors on the trailers. I prefer foldover ramps beccause I don't want to keep carrying ramps to a seperate storage place on the trailer. I have limited experience with pop-up beaver tails and I don't like them.
I have a 24 foot trailer with a 4 foot beavertail and two foldover ramps. I will be adding a third ramp as I have a narrow front tractor. I can fit 2 MM U's on this trailer without having to try to park the fronts side-by-side. We also use this trailer to haul hay and throw a sheet of plywood across the ramps so we can load to the back.

All the ones we have looked at had the pop up beaver tail. Not sure if we would like that or not. We have 2 wide fronts but they won't be hauled at the same time. We are more worried about buying a low quality trailer.

Are you talking about a trailer with 2 7000 lb axles? Around here one of those new is under $4000. You can buy one with 2 10000 lb axles for around $5200. It depends on your location. I prefer the slide out ramps because they don't get in the way when I haul some things I haul. If I only hauled tractors the flip are more convienant. Never heard of Gatormade here.

From what I found online they are cheap in Tx. I am in NW Indiana and they are all shipped here. For a new one around here you can't get below 5000 for a 14k (yes 2 7000 axles)

I have a PJ trailer just like the one you describe. I like everything about the trailer except it could have been painted better and I had to put mud flaps on myself. I have 3 ramps all the same size that slide to get different widths and when they are closed they finish off the deck so I can load right on top of them with a dock or rollback. Ramp setup is real slick for narrow front tractors. Will haul the tractors you are talking about without a problem. Go with sealed beam lights and LED is better yet.

I have a 24x102 PJ I gave $3650 for new 2 years ago.I love it , it never sits more than 2 weeks and hase given me GREAT service. My 4600 ford and NH851 take up about 23 ft. I think pop ups and fold over ramps would shorten available deck space. I have always been able to find a dip to put trailer wheels in to lower deck height. Also with my slide in ramps I can move the ramps for different wheel widths of tractor and bushog while backing the outfit off. I don't think that could be done with fold overs.

PJ Trailers are now powdercoated according to their website.

My PJ is 1 year old, and the paint already looks poor. I wish I'd have waited to buy it and get a powdercoated one.
