The earlier version of that tractor was a 700 series and came only as a 740, 4 speed and only with a gas engine. Horsepower on the smaller engine is about 32.

Visually, you can identify a 700 from a 701 by color if the paint hasn't been messed with. A 700 will be gray sheetmetal and red castings. A 701 will be all red except for gray grille, wheels and fenders.

Here's a site to help out on location of serial number and model number. There may be date codes on various parts of the tractor that will help corroborate what the serial number tells you.

Also, the 700 and 701 series (as well as the larger 900 and 901) came mostly with a narrow front end. However a wide front was optional and there were aftermarket wide front conversions available.

5798 would've been a 1957 model.
