I can not get the PTO to stop turning when I put the PTO brake on. I have tried to adjust the linkage, but it does not help. It will stop everyonce in a while. Has anyone every had this problem, if so how do I fix it?

If your tranny gear oil 90W is mixing with your pto oil which should only be light weight oil like Hy-Gard then you never will get it to work right.

Where exactly are you making the linkage adjustments?

Like Bob said. Get a shop manual and follow the instructions exactly. If it still won't stop, then the lining is probably gone on the PTO brake disc.

The good news is that the discs are still available at your Deere dealer. I replaced all of the lined discs (including the brake disc) and some of the unlined discs at a cost of about $350 a few years ago. Dealer had most of the parts in stock. Took less than a week to get the rest.

Those 2 Deere cylinder PTO's were finicky to adjust. Follow the shop manual directions exactly.

Also, if they have been slipped, or have seen a lot of use, the discs will be warped or damaged, or have the paper lining torn off of them. With damaged discs, they will not fully disengage.

It may be time for some $$$$ new discs.
