Congrats! If you're like most people, give it a few weeks and you'll be so busy that you won't be able to figure out how you ever had time for a job....

My "sentence" here is commuted in about 2 years and 8 months... Looking forward to being nothing but a farmer....

I was told a few days ago that I'm not a "full-time farmer" because I have another job too. That's a bunch of baloney.... I work TWO jobs, one as a farmer, one as , well, whatever it is they pay me to do here.....

So someone said you was not a farmer because you have another job. LOL.....

While I come from the school that would say that I think you are one of the very few that I could not say that about. From what I can remember it seems you are planting 3 farms now and your total acres is over 1000. With that kind of acres I would assume that a good portion of your income comes from farming.

You have to admit there are many out there that have a full time job in town and piddle around planting 1 to 200 acres and calling them self a farmer. That is a hobby or a side job.

Howdy John,

Now, that comment on 1 to 200 acres is kinda steppin on my toes. Our farm is only 157 acres with less than 100 of that in tillable land. The farm's been in the family for 5 generations is your typical old fashioned family farm. Grandad was a tried and true farmer all his life and that was the only farm he had. I sure don't consider it a hobby. Though for what it pays verses what I spend it sure does look like one....hmmm...maybe I need to rethink this issue ha ha! God bless ya buddy.

Because of some health issues, I cut down my rented acreage some this year. Planted about 480 acres of corn, and will plant around 400 soybeans. Still enough to qualify as a farmer in my book. The way I see it, I have 2 and sometimes 3 full-time jobs. The farm takes just as much of my time as anyone elses does, even if they DON'T have a day job. Then, my son and I do commercial bush hogging 6 months a year. We hired some help this year, and keep 2 (and occasionally 3) tractors running full-time road right-of-ways, real estate, and pastures. For someone that isn't "full-time" I sure spend a lot of time working.... (I'm just glad that this job isn't quite as intense as it used to be. I get a lot of "down-time" here)
