I'm wondering what people are getting for pasture rents for cattle? We haven't had cattle for years, but are thinking of getting some again. Part of our land was sold off, and it split the pasture in two. So, before building a fence I was going to see they'd be willing to rent out their part (just 7 acres or so), but not sure what the going rate is. This is in south eastern MN.

thanks, andrew

Ouch. I dunno how the cattle boys make any bucks at that price; no disrespect intended. We rent for around 10 to 14 per acre per year and you do your own improving. Course Improving means protein for the critters so you get your money back at a 3:1 advantage or so.

Hi Mark,

I think Jerry is far enough northwest where he is out there in that "rain" country and where the cattle are in "belly deep" grass all season.

We get about the same as you: $10 per acre per year. I'm sure the sand dunes will start forming just anytime now. :>)

For a 15 acre pasture I own, I let a guy use it for free..... In exchange he keeps all fences maintained, bush-hogs it, & as I told him "takes care of it like it is his" He puts out fertilizer & nitrogen every year. I agreed to give him a six months notice if I ever decide to sell it or ask him to vacate it. That way , he would not get stuck with a bill for fertilizer..... He is a good guy, I have known him for years, I trust him to take care of it...
