Hey guys I and others would like to hear about your best plowing set up. Mine was a 756 pulling4/16s with a model 720 semi mounted plow. Now I get a lot of grief from 3020 people saying I was over powered for 4/16s but from someone who started out on a oliver 70 with a 2 trailer and then went to a smta with 3 and used just about everthing else, this did the very best job, sure you can cover more ground with bigger riggin, but as a example of the perfect set up this was mine

My favorite set up was a 4020D with power shift and a 5-14 semi- mount JD plow. We got the 14s because some of our soil was pretty shallow. My dad used to say that the subsoil was up to the first wire on the fence. Some of the neighbors plowed with 6 bottoms behind the 4020 with a Borg-Warner propane injector and a 20 lb. bottle hanging on the side. I think they had the fuel screw tweeked too. I kmow they had 'em smokin'.

Ford 7710 with mounted Kverneland model AB100HD 4 furrow, 12'-20" variable. I run 17" in sod, 20" in easy ground. Nothing to turn 3 ac/hour in a good field. I've plowed with old Ferguson plows (on Ford 860), a couple of old David Brown's and an old 5x14 Kverneland semi, but this is my favorite setup. In the rocky ground I have, you can't beat the auto reset's on this plow.

Best Plowing experience I have had was with a John Deere 4430 and a 4-16 rollover plow in South Texas. My next better experience was with a Super "M" and a Graham-Hoeme plow. Mostly I did cultivating and harvesting.

later days mates,
Jim

970 CASE with power shift and 5/16 case semi mounted. Was general plowing. It seemed to have very good front to rear balance without rearing front up.

Don't know on the favorite one for sure , but the one that i enjoyed the most was my Farmall 450 diesel with the 540 4x14's and the kasco harrow . I have plowed with and oliver OC3 and 2 bottoms and OC6 with 3x16's three point and 806 with 5x16's and 706 with 4x16's and one spring with a 1805 massey with 7x18's on land and was realy just starten to enjoy the sound of that Cat when i was done it don't take long to do 68 acres of corn ground with that one did it all in one evening where as it would have taken me all week with the 706 and 4 bottoms. I would have to set down and realy think about all the tractors that i have plowed with since i was a pup. So i guess i would have to go with the 450 i guess i had the most fun with it.

Oliver 1855 and an Oliver 546 4-16 plow w/ Midwest Buster Bar mounted on the side. This'll be my second year w/ both. Used a 1755 w/ 565 3-16 before, and a 285 Massey on the same plow before that.

ED.R

You werent over powered by much. I had a semi-mount 4-16 fast hitch on my 706 ger. 4 and low was about right for plowing. 1 and high a little too much in most places.

Other plowing rigs were the Fords or Fergusons on 2-14,s and 3ph.Used 2nd or 3rd or 4 and low depending which Ford or Fergie we were using. Super M and a MH 3-14 trail plow in 2nd gear. steveormary

JD 4430 with DMI 5 bottom variable width plow with 16 inch bottoms. Adjustable from 12 to 22 inch bottoms. Mostly used it on 18 to 20 inch. For plowing the headlands set it on 14 to 16 inch. This plow would go through anything, seems like it had about 40 inches clearance under the frame.

I'm pulling and IH 5/16 with a Massey 2705 with duals on. Have the hitch swung over as far as it will go, so tractor stays up on the unplowed land. I get better traction and use less fuel.

I haven't seen anyone plow around here in years. Most farmer around here just spike tooth. I do plow with my old tractor friends with my Furgeson 20 and two 14's. Jerry
