clutch lockout for storage

I have noticed that on my Kubota and on an '80s era Iseki-built White tractor I was working on, there is a latch so you can lock the clutch pedal pressed down. This is supposed to keep the discs from rusting during long-term storage, e.g. over winter.

Just wondering how many people do this? For those that have replaced clutches on older tractors, did you ever notice a rusted pressure plate or flywheel?

Rick

I got a good deal on a ford 8N where the clutch seized up to the fly wheel. The guy freed it up but then let it set all winter so that when he found it seized up again he sold it to me. That clutch was bound so tight to the fly wheel that it came all apart and took a lot of scraping to get it off of the fly wheel.

We always use a block of wood to do this on our Fords which are known to gat sticky 'cause those rope main seals always weep a little. ...and we always keep the clutch engaged on the John's when parked.

one time on our White 2-105, the pressure plate actually rusted to the flywheel. took lots an lots of PB Blaster and time to get it seperated. we almost used a torch to loosten it up, but didnt want to damage flywheel. we do use the lock that you discribe. before we replaced the white clutch, we didnt think they did much good, but we were kind of wrong

I don't have a clutch lock-down lever on my Oliver 550, but wish I did. Once or twice a winter the disc sticks to the flywheel, after which I am pretty good about putting a weight on the clutch pedal for a while, then forget, then stuck again.

have you thought about using a 2x4 to hold the pedal down? thats what we have to do with our Deutz 7120. works just as good
